chances of foxtel getting the NRL rights in 2028.... nil... if this happens

1 million NRL subscribers gone ... like a fart in a hurricane
foxtel fold shortly after
the aflol deal ..... goooonnneeeee..😎

That would be based on the assumption that the game isn’t run by News Ltd and V’Landys isn’t just a News Ltd stooge. But yes that would a perfect outcome

So how do you build assets with no profits?

Its not that they arent meant to, its that its not a requirement of a sport to generate a profit. They are supposed to be putting money back into the sport and protecting its future.

Profit isnt a bad thing, but its not the only thing that matters when it comes to sport.

its surplus, sport is a not for profit sector unless the club or competition is privately owned by individuals or share holders.

Like I said making surplus is good but not the be all and end all. If your making surplus and achieving all your sports strategic goals then that's a good thing as you can invest the surplus or save it for a rainy day.

What is a naïve thing to do is judge a surplus or loss out of context and in an isolated year if the company has assets to cover the loss and is guaranteed to more than recoup it in years to come. Or if in making that surplus the company is harming its outcomes by not spending where it should be.

He passed on the info to the commission he was told by foxtel & ch 9 .. that the amount the NRL was getting ...was .. all they could afford ,
thats since been proven to be false bordering on a lie

The commission won't allow that same line again & it doesn't matter whether Vlandys is a stooge or not..
The 2 broadcast partners can only run that play once .. & its been played.

You also need to live within your means, For me a small profit is best. Leaves some for the lean years

I see theres stories going around now , the NRL will approach foxtel to fixup their deal
more specifically , getting back the pandemic shortfalls out of the original deal not paid in 2020-22, around 90 Mill I believe
They can't really cry poor can they , & the NRL showed plenty of good faith in agreeing to take less during covid

lets see what happens eh
Yeah Rupert is going to honour a wink-wink, nod - nod agreement and hand over hundreds of millions lol, he will just say he’s old and had a twitch.

It is why AFL should get more than NRL in TV, Whether the gap is reasonable is a debate for a later date
AFL is a far better product overall, NRL is like a regional sport in many ways, crappy grounds with signage sponsors like ‘Micks Garage’ and ‘Billy’s Bakery’ with crowds under 10.000 with zero atmosphere, sure you have top shelf content too like SOO but that doesn’t come close to bridging the gap, the RLWC I’m sorry to say is a complete joke, may as well just have a tri series.

that might be the response to the NRL asking for their good faith during covid to be rightly compensated in light of how much money foxtel actually has ...

If its a no .. well.. there may be a pretty significant sting in that tail when the time comes for the next deal
foxtel won't even be asked to tender an offer

bye bye foxtel
bye bye the aflol's sexy new deal 😎

Only if we've got rid of their stooge and our clueless commissioners. If the same people are leading our negotiations then I wouldn't expect much different outcome.
