2023 marks an exciting fresh new start for the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles in the NSW Cup competition.

Following a tough 2022 season that saw Blacktown finish with the wooden spoon, the club has undergone a clean out of its playing roster and coaching staff.

Blacktown will be coached in 2023 by Greg Boulous, a high-performance sports coach with over 15 years of successful experience and knowledge in rugby league.

A question we often get asked is “What will you do now that Roosters have their own team in the NSW Cup comp?” and it’s a great question. We currently have one more year remaining on our contract with the Sydney Roosters and both sides are committed to honoring that contract for the 2023 season. Both clubs will have teams competing in the Knock On Effect NSW Cup competition and each team will be actively participating in player pathway movement to and from the NRL. The Sydney Roosters will be using their NSW Cup team to provide additional opportunities for their pathway teams and players to progress and test their skills at a higher level and prepare for the NRL. The Bears have used this announcement to bolster our own squads and now have 30 contracted Bears players which has made a huge impact to the way the team trains and the talent we have available to call up to play.

Bears players will continue to be given opportunities to move up to the Roosters NRL squad and play at the highest level of competition in Australia. During the NRL Pre-Season Challenge we had four Bears contracted players, Alfred Smalley, Junior Pauga, Kurt De Lius and William Fakatoumafi, play in the Roosters trial games. These opportunities are invaluable as the players bring their learnings and experience back to the Bears team, week-in and week-out. This pathway also means we can attract a much higher level of player to the red & black.

Roosters contracted NRL players will also continue to drop back into the Bears team each week, when not required in the NRL squad. This helps keep the players match fit but also bolsters our Bears side with next level players. Head Coaches Trent Robinson and Jason Taylor are working together to ensure the Bears have a good representation of Roosters each week and we look forward to welcoming Roosters contracted players like Tui Katoa, Billy Smith, Paul Momirovski, Terrell May, Jake Turpin, Fletcher Baker and Ben Thomas to name a few that have all been allocated to the Bears. Head Coach Jason Taylor stated “our relationship with the Roosters remains positive and strong, and the new setup means we retain more control of not only our gameday plan but also ensure consistent quality training at every session. We are all looking forward to the return of footy next Friday night”.

The Bears are looking forward to a strong season and what a way to kick off the new year than taking on the reigning premiers on their home turf. Bears v Panthers on Friday 3rd March at BlueBet Stadium, kick off 5.25pm.

If anyone goes to the early game at Leichhardt, please record the Roosters NSW Cup team and post on this forum.

When the game kicks off the official teams will be on live scores thing on NSWRL website
Most of the other teams managed to put them in on Tuesday but the bloke from Clovelly seems to have problems. I can tell you most of the other competitions in NSW in the last 2 years are full of blank spaces even though the games are finished.

I got the feeling the blanks were to do with the setup of that player in the system. Whether for some reason it was set to private or whether it was a bug with the portability between clubs/teams
Except sometimes especially early in the season its clubs just not filling them in

I would say that the Roosters were very slow to register contracts. SAG posted 10 players signed by the Roosters on 27 January. Of the 6 players inserted in the system, 5 were on SAG's list. The exception is Callum Ellis, who has come across from Ryde Eastwood where he played 2 seasons in SS and another 2 in RMC.

It is not in the system but here is the Roosters team:

1. Ethan KING 2. Allan FITZGIBBON 3. Ethan CLARK-WOOD 4. Jordan SWANN 5. Vuate KARAWALEVU
6. Joseph TAIPARI 7. Sandon SMITH 8. Tuku Hau TAPUHA 9. Tom DEAKIN 10. Callum ELLIS 11. Siua WONG 12. Elie EL-ZAKHEM 13. Tyrell NEIUFI 14. Tyler MORIARTY 15. Huw WORTHINGTON 16. Josh BEVAN 17. Luke HODGE 18. Cody THOMAS

So the split in players is 3 to the Roosters and 3 to the Bears. I dont know if Worthington has been signed by the Roosters but he was on the Glebe website last week.

I would not be surprised if you are right about the speed of contract signing. Esp with Daniel Anderson's accident.
Thanks for putting that up.
You kicked in my dementia, who/what is SAG (I know I should prob know)

Clearly the Roosters NSW Cup team is part of the development system. Only 1 player has played NRL (3 games) and the 18 have less than 200 NSW Cup games with Elie El Zhakem responsible for nearly a quarter of the total.

The North Sydney team is very experienced - 7 players have played 62 NRL games and the 18 have more than 750 games in the NSW Cup or Q Cup. Nothing compared to the Mounties team that had nearly 600 NRL games in its NSW Cup team about 6 years ago but I think those type of teams are long gone.

LeagueUnlimited.com publishes teams in full where available and usually is more comprehensive than NSWRL as a result (and includes match officials)

The Roosters haven't even listed the NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg Squads for 2023 on their site- Surely someone can do that at least.

Anyone Know what happened to Jack Mossman from Jersey Flegg last year as not listed anywhere this season

The NSW Cup started tonight with the clash of Heavyweights Penrith and North Sydney. Although Jesse Marchke went through a gap after 20 minutes for the Bears to lead 6-0 the Premiers quickly replied through Tyronne Peachey and developed the upper hand and ran out winners 18-12. The Panthers had more than 400 NRL games and nearly 500 NSW Cup games in their 18.

The Bears start with a loss but their upgrade from last season is shown in the fact that when these teams last met in the first week of the finals last year, The Panthers only had 3 regular players after Clearly rested virtually the entire NRL team. Fortunately, it was a catch up round in RMC that week and the Panthers were able to borrow 6 forwards from St Marys, while half the Norths team had their usual Roosters component, but went down 22-14.
