That call is a classic case of the bunker ruling to the letter of the law (push on defender = no try) without having any consideration of the context.

It was exactly the same thing as what happened in the Tigers game with the Brooks push in the back.

The NRL came out and said the ref got it wrong by not giving a penalty for not Brooks getting pushed after slowing down in front of the forward going through.

If they gave the try they would have had to come out and say they got it wrong.

I argued with Tigers fans about the fact that maybe there needs to be a tweak to the blocking rule to say that if a player slowed down in front of them to block their line to the ball they should be fair game and should be able to be pushed out of the way by a the player putting in the effort to get to the ball.

The response was you just can't push the player. It went Canberra's way this time but I still feel it is wrong to be able to slow down in front of someone to block their run to the ball.
