Weidler is saying Wighton took $800K less to come to the Rabbitohs.
Canberra was offering $4.4mil/4 years, so that means we giving him $900K per season for 4 years.
It's a lot of money.
Hopefully we get at least one championship out of this.

Yea, he's taken less money to join a better club. So what? That happens all the time in the NRL. The Roosters do it all the time, their players have admitted it. Yet, does that get probed and all this crap about 'market value' get thrown around? No. It's just because it's Souths.

Secondly, in terms of his market value, we're signing him as a center, so this deal makes him one of the highest paid centers in the game. So surely there's no issue with market value. The Raiders wanted to sign him for $1.1m, it doesn't mean he's worth that to us as a center and it shouldn't mean that's what we have to pay him.

Finally, it has been well detailed how we can fit him into the cap. Of course, we don't know all the ins and outs but surely our club is smart enough and I trust them.

God, this has kind of made me a bit angry. If anything comes of this I will blow up deluxe! Especially the market value stuff. If the NRL comes out and says $1.1m is his market value then I'll fume. That basically means from then on, every player must be paid whatever their highest offer is which is ridiculous. If anything comes of this, we could offer Cleary or Manu $1.5m and the Roosters and Panthers would have to pay that if they go down that path.

Surely common sense prevails here.

Just face it Canberra, you've lost him to a better opportunity somewhere else. It sounds like sour grapes to me.

More bitter and twisted stuff from Canberra. How is it unfair? Jack has made a decision to make a lifestyle change and come to what he believes is a superior club. How is that not fair? We've signed him for above market value as a center, how is that not fair? The Raiders are starting to look bad in this.

I'd be upset if we lost a player under the same circumstances, I'd be devastated of course, but I wouldn't go moaning about how unfair it is.

Are we a chance of getting him this year if things go sour at Canberra? I'd find it unlikely but who knows?

I've always hated Canberra, ever since they were one of the first to sell out during the Super League war.
Now look at that chite idea. Culling the number of teams to 12, but how many teams we got now? And expanding.
How did that work out for Rugby?

I still can't believe this has happened, it's all gone so quick but man, I am overjoyed right now! It's amazing, it's incredible that a player of the caliber of Jack Wighton wants to come to our club and we were actually able to make it happen!

I can't put into words how massive this is. No doubt it's one of our best modern-day signings, certainly our best since Latrell and let's hope that by the end of 2027, it goes down as one of our best signings of all time.

Is actually doable, players like knight on 500k is gone for sure,then there is thompson, carty, chee kam the 7 comes easily,like they said we re signed players on the old cap figure because the new one took so long to be anounced so we are ahead

Is there any wonder the lesser lights of the NRL struggle to come to terms with the anonomolies of the salary cap.

Good luck to the Bunnies, I think you may need it, because frankly he will be 31 years young by the time he takes up his mega deal. Maybe not quite the dollars on offer from the Dolphins or Raiders but far more than his is actually worth. Decent player, but his best is behind him so good luck paying the dollars for a centre or back up fullback/five eighth.

In my opinion this signing will not end well for your club. Just a gut feeling. A huge amount of money to spend on an aging player whose best years are behind him.
