The idea isn’t bad

But afl have taken it to an extreme

Nrl is the other extreme

But storm are viable with the same grant heartland teams get

Giants suns lions and swans would all be broke tomorrow if they received the average afl grant

I would give regional nrl clubs an extra one million pa grant and intestate and overseas clubs an extra two million grant (but the same salary cap)

Money has to be spent on off field stuff that way that helps those clubs longer term
You're making an assumption on clubs ability to generate revenue there. Storm are one of the top earners and dont require more money. Its not about expansion or regional clubs v metro clubs, its about revenue generation ability.

Looking at the chart
Manly
Tigers
Sharks
Warriors
St George
Raiders
Titans

are the clubs who would benefit from a higher than base grant based on revenue generation.

Most have leagues club to fund their off field expenses

Plus funding regional clubs more encourages dragons and tigers to move full time to Wollongong and Campbelltown

Warriors storm titans can spend extra money on development officers or similar

Imagine the roosters / dogs / eels / all agreeing to take less money while manly / sharks get more ..

They can't even agree on finals home grounds.
Its not a case of taking less money for rich clubs. In AFL they have base grant that is same for everyone ($12.2mill). They they have additional payments on top of base based on a whole range of factors.
It seems to be creeping in for NRl clubs. There's up to $4milllion variability in NRL payments to clubs last year. eg Souths received $17.8mill, Broncos received $21.6mill
