I don’t understand why you would demolish 30 year old stadium only so that the government could built a similar style looking stadium, How about building a stadium with a roof on it With a bit more of a capacity.

They're not knocking down the Olympic stadium. The Cathy Freeman moment will mean it will be there until it rusts away.
Same with that soccer guy who scored that goal to get us in the world cup.
Plus some of the great grand final moments.

We all know its not an ideal stadium but it is starting to have a lot of historically significant sporting moments.

If they can knock down the SFS after Steve Jackson's winning try in the 1989 grand final then they can knock down anything

Quite Simply, Sydney deserves a new football stadium which is in central Sydney.

Half the reason fumbleball gets such big crowds in Melbourne is because the MCG is in the middle of Melbourne with immediate rail departure.

The NSW government is missing out here.

Now that we have an 80K stadium, I can't ever see Sydney not having one. The media would go off at the State Government for firstly taking away the opportunity for 20K worth of fans to attend their favourite event or concert, and then would also say how the Government has given up on western Sydney, forcing everyone to trek into Moore Park.

I could imagine the articles now, random people in Western Sydney who call it sportsball talking about how the Government took away their opportunity to watch live sport, or a families who for whatever reason needs to take the M5, M7, M2 and M4 to get into Moore Park and how it will now cost them $412.60 in tolls.

No government would expose themselves to those attacks.

Anyway, being serious, even if they did get rid of Accor and were able to sell it to developers, the developers would be limited in what they could do. The venue is surrounded by Qudos Bank Arena, Sports Halls, Athletic Centre & Cathy Freeman Park, which they wouldn't be able to touch or build too close to. Not sure if it would all add up.

Homebush will have a railway, light rail and metro in the next 8 years..

The light rail is overcrowded to the SFS/SCG on match days it requires a metro station. An extension of the Sydney Metro West is required and has been lobbied by Venues NSW.

As my job involves me having to know what goes on within the NSW Parliament, the Government regardless of political persuasion, would have buckley's chance of getting that change through. It's even worse now as the NSW Government is in a minority in the lower house, and only governs with the support of two independents, one of whom would be against selling Government land to developers and also who's electorate covers the Moore Park area.

It's not just all about what the Government of the day may want.

We all know its not an ideal stadium but it is starting to have a lot of historically significant sporting moments.

Old Wembley stadium had the twin towers. It also had great moments like England winning in '66 (not a great moment for the rest of the world lol), and legendary concerts, such as Live Aid and Queen.

The newer version of Wembley has the arch. It is less than 20 years old, but in time, there will be historic moments.

The stadium may have changed, but Wembley, as a site, is still there. They haven't moved to another location.

The same applies with Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush. The stadium may change, but it will remain the location of a past Olympiad.

60K for the largest stadium in Australia's premier city is nowhere near big enough.

Homebush will be done eventually. And I'd rather they wait and do it properly rather than put lipstick on a pig.

By 2030 the infrastructure to Olympic Park will be completely transformed. A 80-90k stadium will be perfect for that location.

You you might be reading, but you are not comprehending. Bob Carr after the 1999 and 2003 elections had the largest majorities in the NSW Parliament's history until the election of Barry O'Farrell in 2011. Even then Carr didn't try to sell off either now Allianz or Homebush. The guy was not politically stupid.

Generally speaking neither was Gladys Berejiklian. She knew she'd have buckley's of getting the legislation changed.
