Broncos got 3 home crowd attendances that year > 52500, which would not be possible at Suncorp (largest being 58593 in the final round vs St George).

I'm really shocked tbh at how attendances have increased so significantly and quickly.
We have spent more than two to three decades sitting around the 15 - 16 k limit, yet the game has exploded attendance wise over the past 2 seasons.
An 18 or 19 thousand average seemed impossible not long ago, yet here we are, so quickly.
Almost every match has become an event. Even Spoonbowls!!!
PVL has seriously changed the game for the better during his tenure.
The Bulldogs are a perfect example. Who'd have ever thought two years ago that they'd be getting 30000 attendances now for games that they'd previously just get 10-15k? Yep, nobody.
I don't think that this sort of growth will continue, but geez, it is exciting.

Was in the Lake District a month or so ago and saw a Knights and Penrith jerseys and were from Lancashire just wished I worn my Roosters one.

Using the ‘AFL Tables’ site (and their attendance figures) NRL has increased from 16400 (the pre covid high) in 2012 to 20000 this year, an increase of 22%. Given the restrictions of certain grounds (including my dear old club) and the number of sell outs this year the sky is the limit if the scheduling can be improved and some clubs opt to play big games at bigger venues (eg sharks v Dragons derbies at Allianz)

It's getting to the point now where there is logic to play any Sydney derby at one of the 3 big stadiums

Warriors … social media up the wahs super rugby boring

dolphins …. Brisbane 2 also led to a boom in qld crowds due to flow on of derbies and feel good factor

broncos … good marketing in response to a new club in their city

dogs …. Fans not seems good team for years and years

manly … amazing can’t explain it

cowboys … new ground and better form

knights … another huge fanbase waiting for a really good team

roosters … new stadium and collapse of union crowds

Eels good stadium and a formerly good team

Penrith .. best league team since 55 to 66 dragons

titans … Hasler turning them from a basket case

rest is good scheduling (magic, Anzac Day Easter Monday etc)

The main reasons I think are Rugby dying in Australia and improving the NRL's image.

It wasn't that long ago that 5-10+ players were getting done with sexual and violent assault against women every year with nothing more than a fine and a couple of games suspension. Not exactly appealing to women.

It wasn't anywhere near family-friendly either. Too many fights, too many head highs, and dangerous tackles that got let go. Crowd behavior was pretty appalling. Half the players either had criminal records or drunk driving charges. Not exactly good role models or a safe sport to get your kids into.

In short - the NRL was looked down on by a lot of demographics as a low-class, violent sport full of thugs. It now has mass appeal to the majority of demographics.

I can't speak for others but Panthers have a stack of younger fans and the social media team have nailed it in the last 5-10 years

Covid is the biggest global event since WW2… those couple years of lockdowns were tough particularly in Sydney and Melbourne … i think people are now appreciating the more simpler things in life like going to the footy … also other reasons like improved stadiums have been a factor … one thing that sucks though about going to the footy is how expensive food and beers have become

WT are last for the third year in a row … yet have sold out their last game of the season … and others throughout the year … is this something you think they ( both entities and the NRL) should be effing around with ?
