2024 Crowd Watch

Not everyone in VIC is an AFL fanatic. In a city of 5m that has a reputation of filling stadiums to watch any and every sport they should be able to fill a 30k stadium every week.

To expose the Storm to new Victorian fans the NRL need to have it in thier next FTA deal that all storm games are shown weekly on FTA main channel, not hidden away on GEM.
Why can't Sydney RL games fill their small stadiums? Is not RL the main sport?

If 17K against an out of town team in absolute dogshit weather is a bad crowd I’m not sure what you make of 90% of the crowds in the NRL.

Don’t get me wrong I’d like to see the storm average more but it’s ludicrous to hold them to such a higher standard than everyone else.

One town teams are held to higher standard though

89,755 from 5 for a healthy 17,951 average.

Need at least 29,245 from Brookvale & Townsville to keep the average at 17K for the round.

There is no ‘Code War’ in Melbourne and it is been a long time since there has been any animosity from the media or general population. Storm are very mainstream. They get airtime even in the ‘AFL media’ like SEN. RU used to be reasonablly popular here and the average person might still say there the prefer ‘the other rugby’ but those people mostly watch neither code.

Crowds sit just below what the three smallest AFL clubs draw against non-Victorian teams. They will probably catch and then pass them in the next decade.

Storm are growing and being a genuine rugby league club

collapse of union will mean all the money spent by the aru on juniors will now benefit rugby league

Fair assessment. It’s been a lot of hard work but it’s now bearing fruit.

Which is dumb.

Storm crowds are right inline with other NRL clubs. Swans crowds are inline with other AFL clubs. AFL simply has done better at building people up coming to games, it has nothing to do with Melbourne or Sydney culture.

I don't reckon the record is being broken again this year.

No big shame but hopefully it doesn't take 18 years to break it again!
