The Glebe Dirty Reds will play Wentworthville in the Ron Massey Cup grand final on Saturday after defeating minor premiers St Marys 24-10 at St Marys Stadium yesterday. There was a fair bit of dropped ball from both sides, but the Dirty Reds showed more class with the ball in hand, and defended their own line well. Penrith Brothers will play Wentworthville United in the Sydney Shield grand final after beating Ryde-Eastwood 38-16 in the preliminary final yesterday. Both grand finals are at Leichhardt on Saturday with Shield kicking off at 3pm and Massey at 5pm.

It was a tough day for Wenty, losing both grades after being first into the Grand Final. It is very common for the premiers to come from within the top 3 positions. This is particularly the case in these grades where inconsistency is the order of the day, so the prospects of winning 4 in consecutive weeks is low.

In SS, Brothers had managed to win 2 games on the trot a few times, but crucially, despite the ups and downs, they had Wenty's measure with 2 wins and a draw from the 3 round games. They had a poor start today, handing over possession courtesy of a forward pass, which Wenty converted into a try within the next set, and after evening the score they gifted another try to Wenty, when a Brothers dropped ball saw Delailoa run the length of the field.

After that Brothers cut the errors and their superior attacking skills were exercised and Man of the Match, Donovan Boney supplemented his general play with 6 goals from 6 attempts.

Glebe's best run prior to the finals was 3 wins of the trot a couple of times. While the RMC game was far more competitive, Glebe always seemed to be in control. Until the latter part of the game, Glebe took most of their chances, while Wenty butchered a couple of opportunities in the first half. Taipari played the full game but handed over kicking duties to bench prop, Arahu, who gave Glebe an 8-0 lead after 33 minutes and then coverted from the sideline when Nofoaluma scored his first try, reprising a role he had years ago when he was a chunky No 6.

Coach Zubs last won a premiership when Concord-Burwood-North Ryde Utd went through the season undefeated in 2011 in the St George-Balmain-Canterbury A Grade and then entered the Jim Beam Cup in 2012.
