Observations of the tournament so far:
1) Games between the minnows have been interesting. One of the few things the ICC has done right, expanding the number of teams to 20.
2) Opening match between USA and Canada. The first ever sports contest between 2 nations was coincidentally a cricket match between USA and Canada in 1844.
3) PNG should've won against the Windies, but poor bowling at the end cost them
4) Yes, the pitch in New York was in favour of the bowlers, but not to the point of being unplayable. Sri Lanka batted poorly, and admittedly were 40-50 runs below par score.
I just get so sick and tired of hearing these pundits in the media - of which nearly all of them are former batsmen - such as Sanjay Manjrekar that always whinge every single time a pitch (especially in white-ball matches) offers something for the bowlers. They've lost all touch with reality, and have become completely desensitized after watching a smorgsabord of team scores in the 200+ range being racked up on short boundaries in the IPL. When 261 is successfully chased down in T20, you know there's a major imbalance between bat and ball (especially considering when 250+ was a competitive score in the ODI format before the rise of T20)
The hypocrisy of Manjrekar is he has no issue at all when India dish up rank-turners in test matches that allow Ashwin and Jadeja to inflate their bowling stats.
5) The scheduling is absolute crap, due to this obsession from the ICC with wanting to have games played in primetime in India. However, it ain't fan-friendly having 10:30am starts during the week, let alone in the heat with exorbitant ticket prices.
Generally speaking, T20 matches are more ideal being played at night. Day T20 matches just don't have the same atmosphere.
