And there’s people on here saying nine can’t afford to pay much for the nrl
Well whilst $45mill profit isnt to be sneezed at, on $1.4bill revenue its not huge and doesnt exactly give them a lot to pay more does it?

They ain’t cutting their best programming

They can start with cutting the super rugby and tests

That’s 30 million right there which nobody watched that can pay for the extra money they need to pay us

Last bledisloe got 240k viewers lmao

Its likely they will Stan as their future, in which case I can see them going hard for the whole lot. If FTA component alone is worth much more is unclear. In reality there is only Ch10 that would compete with them for that.

Can’t see Stan outbidding FoxSports but it helps

Especially if they are trying to sell it (foxsports) they won’t want to lose number one programming

Assuming they pay 120 million now for the fta rights it should be around 140 to 150 million in the new deal

Depends how much Fox has left to spend. If Stan can afford $500mill they allegedly offered AFL for the whole lot then could Fox match $350-400mill for its part? Ch9 pay $115mill cash for FTA and some radio now.

500 million for a 20 team comp ?

Yeh no chance that’s happening

They would’ve got over that just for the current comp

Even if it’s 22 rounds and an expanded pacific cup the benchmark should be 600 million for Aussie nz tv deals

And no nrl foxtels value is zero.

Current foxtel valuation up to 1.8 billion us

$115m drop in FTA advertising revenue, despite record ratings on FTA (Seven dropped 83m in advertising revenue) YoY. Thats not particularly helpful. And it wasnt offset by 20m in subtv revenue increases;

Not surprising with the number of streaming advertising options these days. Some sht travel vlog on Youtube can get bigger audience reach than what a SOO game draws in on FTA!

If you believe that then the afl fta deal should be worth half

Seven is almost broke and that’s before the new afl tv deal kicks off

Afl has one big event on fta all year league has four and soon with women’s origin maybe six

off

I did say this the other day. NRL at best covers costs at worst loses money outside SOO

The NRL is like milk and bread to woolies, loss leaders or break even , you need it to target your other shows through advertising. I think they call it the halo effect and only AFL and NRL have that kind of audience. If 9/stan get everything then I wouldn’t be surprised if every second ad was for Stan during fta games or they shove more ads in so the game gets further delayed from the Stan coverage.

Its not a matter of belief. Its whats literally printed in the audited annual reports.

Seven is almost broke and that’s before the new afl tv deal kicks off

The AFL deal was signed in 2022. Seven arent almost broke and having debt is not a bad thing as long as its being serviced properly.

Afl has one big event on fta all year league has four and soon with women’s origin maybe six

Its almost like theres more to ratings than you think. And certainly more than six matches make a year.

Nine told Rugby Australia it would take up an option in its favour to broadcast rugby until the end of 2025 in an extension of the current, $30 million-per-year deal struck in 2020.

Nine is also paying Tennis $85 million a year (cash) plus contra, and that has very limited major events, almost all ina a one week window in january. That deal ends in 2029 and includes Stan.

Seven and Fox are paying 214m a year through 2031 for Cricket of which Seven will pay $65m a year not including contra (plus increases if they meet BBL revenue targets) - with streaming for the first time, inclusive of Tests, BBL/WBBL and womens internationals.

Again, you have no idea what it rated on Stan, no one outside of Stan does.

Afl grand final was over a month ago

Nine still getting high rating rugby league content going into this weekend

If the advertising market is as bad as you say seven won’t be able to afford the new tv deal

Indeed based on the current profit of 45 million the new afl deal will wipe most of that profit out

that may be, but the AFL deal was already done. The NRL one isnt, and finances arent what they were.

Remember when you were telling us that regional viewers don’t matter it’s only the five capital cities that matter for tv deals ?

I literally have no idea where that is in the comment you are responding to and Im too f**king tired to chase your tangents tonight.
