Hi Wookie,

not sure if you know the answer to this but seeing as the Fox bvod numbers are so high and last year I had to switch my cable to internet as nbn were taking the copper , do you think a lot of the set top box’s are being counted as streaming now as it is running through internet? Sorry for confusing question haven’t had much sleep.

Streaming ratings are Kayo/Fox Now and Fox Go (which is theoretically in the VOZ BVOD count)

But technically I am streaming through the IQ5 box which runs on NBN and has no cable attached ?

You arent on the oztam panel though are you.

theres something different about the Kayo signal that makaes it different to the set top box data stream - its why it took them so long to integrate. Something to do with the sound in partcular not registering with the oztam boxes.

No , not on the panel. I thought bvod would be a lot easier to measure like a counter or something similar.

How on earth does the afl have so many viewers suddenly? I see, this new procedure makes them look better. I wonder who came up with this new idea. Hmmm
Anyway watching men going round in circles, fighting for the ball like headless chooks is not something I would want to watch.

Same thing happened 15 years ago with regional viewers

afl was claiming more viewers since regional vieweweren’t being counted

when regional viewers were finally counted somehow the afl had fudged it reducing the gap by 300k viewers

it’s only now when all viewers are counted it’s clear rugby league is number one

fox / kayo are the best figures to use because both sports are shown in all markets and all viewers are counted

that shows rugby league having 70 to 80 percent of the most watched

for she’s the media and sites like sports media were saying nrl ratings were soft then when the kayo numbers came out they change their tune

They were being counted, but they werent being reported because they werent immediately available. They were up to two weeks behind the overnights in some cases, by which time everyone had moved on.

Well it was Oztam who stated that VOZ removed double counting, which just happened to move it the AFLs way a little. It wasnt the AFL or its fans that did that.

This depends on your definition of all viewers. Its true for averages thats for sure. However, Reach data is all viewers who watch for at least a minute and is probably more reflective of the AFL total viewership than the average data we have become accustomed to.

Im not fond of it as a measure of popularity - which i believe averages do better reflect as retained viewership over the course of the broadcast - but in terms of total viewership, reach IS a factor.

fox / kayo are the best figures to use because both sports are shown in all markets and all viewers are counted

You cant really exclude the other 70% of the market. However also note that, Fox says Oztam is undercounting them by 40% so its accuracy is questionable at best,

I dont remember anyone ever saying that NRL ratings were soft.

Fumbleball starts a half hour before the League and finishes well after it (I don`t know by how much because I don`t watch it - except a few seconds for a laugh sometimes) but my point being, for all the non-fanatics who have the OZtam measurement box that`s a lot of time to have a quick squiz at the f-ball, hence Reach data`s absurdly favouring the f-ball.

oh its unquestionably favourable to longer running sports - which is why Bigfooty thinks im running a conspiracy - hi guys! - to promote leagues ratings at the expense of everyone else.
