Whats the current ratings for NRL? (Not counting the entire village sitting round one cathode ray tv)
Pm13 v png got over 1 million people watching

I posted the ratings previously

The article mention turning causal fans into hard core fans

For a nation of 12 to 17 million who knows how many million they can get it too

Be interesting to see if they put the PNG club games on FTA and the rest on streaming PTV? Be good if they did so the whole country could watch, that'd be some mad scenes if they can be successful! PNG the only place in the world that could match the fanaticism of soccer.

Yeh that’s how I would do it

Won’t get big dollars but the fta exposure will grow the club a lot

TBh I dont think it'll need any growing if the RL fanaticism is to be believed (or is it a Bears 200k members claim?) But if it is to provide a focal point for tribal unity of the country ( a big ask!) then it needs to be on TV every weekend for the country to rally around. No point being on PTV with just 5% of the country watching.

The fanaticism is anything but a fantasy and handled well will be a huge boon for the game. How that translates into numbers will be an interesting exercise in data interpretation.

This is not intended to be scare-mongering but on the other side of the coin, Marty Bella and the Mt. Hagen test were just tips of the iceberg. You can trace that exuberance back to the rep games of the Papua v New Guinea days which was before the local citizens were even allowed to participate (circa 1963). We talk about club tribalism and market leverage, however, the PNG version of that is nationalism which can manifest itself as mob rule.

Now that the decision has been made I can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

Salt from “afl” fans

Being a white centric sport means it appeals to a small part of the population

Here’s a very interesting stat about “afl”

“A 2014 Origins research study found that the proportion of AFL players with a heritage other than Anglo-Celtic had increased from 14.8% to 15.2% between 2007 and 2014“

Lmao

Whereas rugby league is for everyone including the pacific

Interested in the thoughts that DAZN ownership of Fox will have on the negotiation of the NRL deal going forward.. pvl and a British billionaire negotiating could go south very fast
