Have noticed that the Wests Tigers are removing the seats in the northern end of CommBank Stadium for their three games at the venue (including Easter Monday).

The sections will be turned into 'safe standing', like what they do for the A-League games at the venue.

Not sure what to think... I'll give the club credit for trying something different at the venue.
Good to see

Whilst they obviously won't create the atmosphere as a wanderers game lots of tigers fans like too stand at games so I think is a good way to bring that pub atmosphere to the modern stadium.

Good way to make seats cheaper too.

good friday is selling well this far out. gold, the kennel and away bay at limited reserve

might see our first 40k since 15 good friday.

Considering the Bulldogs' start to the season, 40k should be on lock IMO.

The Bunnies' form between now + Good Friday is the difference between a 40k crowd and something over 50k I reckon.

As anyone who has been to a few games at the new CommBank and Allianz could attest, the design which have open concourses where people like to congregate and watch from as they're open to anyone. If you have the cheapest ticket at an end you can essentially stand 15 rows back near the halfway line which leaves their original seats empty

If it's a game my team is playing against the Bulldogs, I am absolutely avoiding going to that game.

When I do it again I want good grandstand seats so as to view their antics from afar. I`ll also feel a lot safer winding them up from a distance.
Winding up Bulldogs fans sounds like a young man's game. Winding your neck in might be the wiser option for rival fans at the FAFO stage of life.

Interesting that this post should be followed by others saying the concourse is de facto a "safe standing" area for those who purchase cheaper seats. Following on from the theme of new stadia providing higher percentages of premium vantage points.

I suppose the moral is different strokes for different folks.

How does NRL compare with AFL in terms of choice and affordability?

I`ll tell you something maybe a little insightful, when I was at uni in the 80`s there was a little guy with a dyed red/orange hair cut in a David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust style who wore a tattered Bulldogs jersey around campus year-in year-out, we had mutual friends and I got to know him and discovered he studied law and was one of the funniest wittiest people I had ever met, I used to say he was as witty as Oscar Wilde he was that sharp. He seemed to disappear and I was told later he had a heroin habit. Anyway years later I was watching the ABC news around the time of the Bulldogs salary cap scandal (early 2000`s ?) and there on the news - they had cameras at Belmore - and there was a group of Dogs faithful looking despondent and there he was being interviewed by the ABC, I`ll never forget what he said:" I know it`s only a game man, but I can`t help it". Probably reflective of how a lot of Dogs` fans feel.
The dog who fell to earth.

Dolphins home game vs Broncos this Friday has started shifting tickets well - unfortunately quite a few might think that the game was sold out after the Dolphins ticketing rep left level 7 closed for a fortnight.

Approx 40-41k sold. Pretty much only level 7 north and south to go (only south is open, they'd be wise to release north tomorrow)

Yikes - didn't check the forecast before the above, and the media has started yapping about a 'rain bomb' which will deter families. Sydney expected to be rough over the weekend too.

have a friend with GA season ticket to Parramatta - he says that for most games he moves to that area to watch the game once it starts and the stadium isn't at full capacity

Why not change it to games played with an oval ball. Nrl is then second. Yippee.

f1 has ten teams competing across 24 rounds of competition. sure it’s unique as a global competition with a round each time in a new location and all teams ‘on the field’ at the same time, but it’s still in effect a season long team competition.
Terrible take. Yosemite's point still stand.

14k at the sharks raises a few questions. firstly, how? secondly, where? and the third...is this safe?
The reduced capacity for Shark park was caused by three things. Firstly, the active construction taking place next door, which meant areas near the construction zone were not allowed to have people in them. Secondly was in relation to the number of fire escapes for the venue, with work ongoing, some where impacted or unavailable, which caps a potential crowd and thirdly was parts of the Peter Burns stand being unavailable.

Most of the active external construction next door has now stopped and a number of the fire escapes have been able to be re-opened/re-certified, etc (not sure if all have).

Technically Shark Park could have held a 15K crowd last year, just legally wasn't allowed to do it. Have to admit, I'm not sure how the venue gets back to a 20K capacity once everything is done. The Peter Burns Stand being fully re-opened should add another 1K-2K and maybe they can squeeze another 1K somewhere else, but that would be it.
