Basically there are going to be anomalies/argument either way you look at it. I could have gone just Townsville and Charters LGAs populations perhaps and that would mean they would have the best ratio, lower than the Knights. I was using the ABS regional grouping though which includes Mackay and Bowen, however if we include Cairns and Innisfail or everything in a 400km radius, then the quotient actually becomes higher and looks worse, as the population increases. Including Mackay in the region increases the ratio a bit but thought it was a trade off.

If we use that same methodology then we could say people travel from Goulburn and Wagga to go to Canberra games so they should be included, or people travel from Taree, Singleton and Port to go to Knights games, or people travel from country towns every week to see Sydney teams play etc, etc.

There is no perfect way to count it. Either way Cowboys and Knights are the best supported teams.
As a former Mackay boy, let me give you the tip. 800km return is a lot to drive for a footy game. Even Bowen is 400k return.
Plenty of people do the Mackay-Townsville trip for the footy maybe once. Twice if you're a rusted on fan. Same (well, actually a bit less) with Cairns. But in total that's probably no more than - for example - the number of Storm fans who fly to Sydney for a game, so including Mackay in your catchment is just silly. May as well include Melbourne in the catchment for Sydney teams.

Women's Origin 1 update:

- Black - 80%-100% sold
- Maroon - selling
- White - only 10% of these areas are sold due to seats being pulled for sponsorship packages
- Purple - Stadium members

Probably around 20k sold.

Encouragingly corner bays in the lower bowl have been put back on sale, and they are now selling from 508 - 518 and 526 - 535 on Level 5.

News Corp is reporting that they are expecting a crowd larger than the 25,492 they got last year.

What i was trying to point out to you was you included Mackay in the figure which was actually further away in distance from TVL than what Cairns was......

Anyways, IMO a fair way and reasonable way of doing the crowds v population ratio would be a 100kms radius.

For NQ that would mean TVL (200k) + Ingham (5k) + Charters (10k) + Ayr (10k), which totals roughly 225k which puts NQ well in front of any other team in the NRL.
Don’t ruin the ‘neWcAStle faNs aRe the bESt’ fairytale that fetishises those salt-of-the-earth Hunter folk, with facts.
