That’s bs the name of the team is North Queensland

Basically there are going to be anomalies/argument either way you look at it. I could have gone just Townsville and Charters LGAs populations perhaps and that would mean they would have the best ratio, lower than the Knights. I was using the ABS regional grouping though which includes Mackay and Bowen, however if we include Cairns and Innisfail or everything in a 400km radius, then the quotient actually becomes higher and looks worse, as the population increases. Including Mackay in the region increases the ratio a bit but thought it was a trade off.

If we use that same methodology then we could say people travel from Goulburn and Wagga to go to Canberra games so they should be included, or people travel from Taree, Singleton and Port to go to Knights games, or people travel from country towns every week to see Sydney teams play etc, etc.

There is no perfect way to count it. Either way Cowboys and Knights are the best supported teams.
As a former Mackay boy, let me give you the tip. 800km return is a lot to drive for a footy game. Even Bowen is 400k return.
Plenty of people do the Mackay-Townsville trip for the footy maybe once a year. Twice if you're a rusted on fan. Same (well, actually a bit less) with Cairns. But in total that's probably no more than - for example - the number of Storm fans who fly to Sydney for a game, so including Mackay in your catchment is just silly. May as well include Melbourne in the catchment for Sydney teams.

Women's Origin 1 update:

- Black - 80%-100% sold
- Maroon - selling
- White - only 10% of these areas are sold due to seats being pulled for sponsorship packages
- Purple - Stadium members

Probably around 20k sold.

Encouragingly corner bays in the lower bowl have been put back on sale, and they are now selling from 508 - 518 and 526 - 535 on Level 5.

News Corp is reporting that they are expecting a crowd larger than the 25,492 they got last year.

What i was trying to point out to you was you included Mackay in the figure which was actually further away in distance from TVL than what Cairns was......

Anyways, IMO a fair way and reasonable way of doing the crowds v population ratio would be a 100kms radius.

For NQ that would mean TVL (200k) + Ingham (5k) + Charters (10k) + Ayr (10k), which totals roughly 225k which puts NQ well in front of any other team in the NRL.
Don’t ruin the ‘neWcAStle faNs aRe the bESt’ fairytale that fetishises those salt-of-the-earth Hunter folk, with facts.

I hope not. The magic of magic round is that all games are played in one stadium, creating a real festival atmosphere.

Suncorp has the added benefit of Caxton Street, and no amount of retrofitting hospitality businesses around the new Olympic Stadium will replicate what it adds to the game day experience - see Moore Park vs Surry Hills / Paddington and the wasteland that is Sydney Olympic Park as relevant case studies.
The new stadium will need restaurants and bars built close by as it looks like it could be a 1km+ walk to the nearest dining/drinking area - King st in Bowen Hills which is a very new strip itself. Ironically the Gabba has great options close by comparable to Caxton.

There's around 57 actual seated tickets left for Magic Round Friday (and this is excluding the accessible seatings for those with disabilities).

Supposed to be no rain From Thurs-Sat, with rain coming on Sunday (similar weather to how 2023 was).

Great to hear it's down to under 100 tickets now. That's pretty much a technical sell out and should hopefully look full for the start of the Dolphins v Roosters match.

On Suncorp matches, encouraging to see more bays going on sale for Women's Origin, with 536, 525, 507 & 506 being put on today.

Most/All clubs have been increasing their average over the years except Canberra. Just look at other regional teams like Newcastle. I do think there’s a big concern, need a concerted effort to get this to a 20k average and that includes building a new stadium. PVL should be campaigning hard for this, but the raiders aren’t don’t their cause much by rarely getting close to filling Bruce.

But im less concerned about their crowd moreso worried that if its a sign of lagging interest in the nrl in Canberra.
I actually get the opposite impression. Seems that the Raiders have built up a solid following over the past few years i.e. even their worst crowds aren't so bad - just can't draw much of a bandwagon or away fans

Level 6 has been opened up for tonight. With the great weather - Looking like a possible new record for a Womens Origin match.

Good bit of media and hype aired last night on 9's main channel at 8:30pm (Primetime)

Breakthrough - The Rise of Womens Rugby League

This years television ratings will be vital with the TV rights negotiaitons starting this year. If they can sustain last years figures, that would be great. If they can continue their growth, that would be exceptional.

I've been too busy to watch if they've been alternating rows in level 5, but if they've sold the first spaced rows and are selling the second now, we could see approx 30-32k.

26-28k probably more likely.

Stadium members were particularly garbage last year, keen to see how they show up tonight.

Updated map:
- Black - pretty much full
- Purple - members
- Maroon - selling - probably anywhere from 10-30% full come kick off
- White - empty due to sponsor setups

I put that on hoping we`d get something interesting, unfortunately when Andrew Johns said with a straight face " SOO was the closest Australia has ever come to civil war" I was out of there.
Depressingly stupid.

I reckon if they left Games 2 & 3 the day after the Men's Origins 1 & 2, we would have seen some amazing TV audiences for the series. Moving the matches forward so Game 2 now falls between rounds 10 & 11 so I worry it might get lost a bit whilst people aren't thinking Origin.
