The nrl need to get rid of their obsession with Thursday night games on 5 game weekends

Sharks vs Dragons not even cracking 10,000 is embarrassing.
I don't think that will ever happen. More likely to move Origin to standalone weekends.

What we need to do is get clubs like Cronulla and the Dragons to follow whatever the heck Manly is doing, because they pack out their ground every home game.

It's the broadcasters who push for this. Nine wants their Thursday, Friday & Sunday timeslots filled with something for 27 consecutive weeks.

It doesn't have to be NRL, NRLW, WSOO and even U19s SOO is all acceptable, but they're not prepared to have an empty timeslot.

After 2027 Sydney and Perth should have the rights for the magic round, its about time we should be the host city where RL was originated from. I don't know why Brisbane always get these major events, why do they always get the upper hand in everything, isn't Sydney good enough? Judging by the way the Dogs are going with 60k plus crowds who's to say we can't get those big numbers especially for MR when all sydney teams come together? And what a way to have Perth hosting it on Friday especially with the Bears coming out of hibernation, this would be amazinggggggggggg.

So in 28

Optus oval Perth in Friday sold out 60k

Allianz stadium Saturday sold out 44k

Sunday at Accor Stadium sold out 80k plus

yeah yeah i say bring it on 😎😁
Hands off Magic Round is ours. Sydney get the Grand Final.

Also, Magic in Sydney wouldn't work, the event is valuable because fans travel to it and spend money causing State Governments to bid millions. The majority of fans already live in Sydney, wouldn't have the same economic impact, plus Sydney has multiple games on every weekend anyway.

Lastly, no one can match Suncorp and the Caxton St precinct, it is perfection for Magic Round.

Seriously how long will the NRL put up with the sharks stinking out of the place every time they play in that toilet bowl They call a stadium?

8,573 is the kind of crowd Huddersfield or Salford would get in super league.

With crowds like that in a rubbish stadium with little corporate facilities it won’t long till the sharks just can’t compete. Sydney clubs like roosters , dogs and eels see will earn 500k from home games will the sharks are losing money

God help us when they have a prolonged period of struggle at the bottom end of the competition.

we could be looking at regular sub 5k crowds.

But suburban tribalism is where its at, Vlad told us so.

We’ll soon see how many Perth gets on a Thursday or Monday night …. Shouldn’t be any issues getting the CBD office workers to the ground for a 6pm game…. Knock off at 5 …head to the ground …

They will probably schedule more of these games in Perth than the typical club, given the earlier kick off time in Perth

Another terrible performance from the Dragons. It started off so well, but in the second half, they had their own "batting collapse". Looks pretty bleak for the rest of the season. Feels like there is a lack of direction from the club. Not sure where the club is going.

The crowd last night was a shocker. Only 8,573. Newtown can do better with "8,972" lol.

Anyway, a local derby game between Sharks v dragons should not be scheduled just a few days out from Origin. I doubt the NRL would programme Broncos v Cowboys last night.

As for the crowd, what are Cronulla's plans for Shark Park? Maybe before it goes back to full capacity, take some home games to Allianz. Cronulla need to do something.

Shark Park won't ever get public money whilst the Sharks own it, so I wonder if they should consider looking to try and get a stadium built in a better location (closer to a train line).

You can still keep Shark Park as a COE and a NRLW ground, but if the club has any ambition for growth then it's something they need to consider.

That comparison is ludicrous. Brisbane v North Queensland is one of the premium rivalries in Australian sport.

Last night's effort was two clubs who are mediocre in every way, with small fanbases that revel in that mediocrity. If either the clubs or their fanbases could be bothered to turn it into a good rivalry, play at decent stadiums and at least try to give the game some lustre then it could be mentioned in the same breath.

But they don't and it resembled little better than a country rugby league local derby.

It was buried exactly where it deserves to be. Good scheduling NRL.

The grounds about a 15- 20 minute walk from a station. Closer than some grounds to a train. I don’t think that’s the problem it’s the lack of drive to get fans to games.

There's truth to that for sure. Rugby League is built on tribalism. It's hard to argue though, that the South-East corner of Sydney needs two teams when you look at the crowds coming out of Shark Park and Kogarah.

Dragons to WIN and Allianz? Sharks crowds should pick up when the ground returns to 18k.
