Actually it is the other way around. They built the new stadiums (AAMI and Marvel) where the transport was.

Ease of access is everything if you want regular big crowds.

The ease with which you can to games in Melbourne compared to Sydney as a visitor is undeniable. The stadiums are right where they should be. Marvel is right on the main train line.

As for AAMI:

‘AAMI Park is accessible by train, tram and bus. The stadium is walking distance from Richmond Station and Flinders Street Station. Stop 7D is outside AAMI Park on the Tram 70 tram line from Flinders Street.’

All that is something Sydney has never had until recently with the introduction of the Sydney Metro and the light rail extension to Moore Park.

I was back home last year to visit my side of the family during the summer and took in an A-League football (soccer) game at the SFS and couldn't believe how much easier it was to get around compared to when I was still up there living at home.

In saying that ShittyFail (Sydney Trains) were at it once again as the Cronulla line to and from the city was out for trackwork again.

The original plan in the late 90s was for Olympic Park to be integrated into the Western Line (versus being a spur line) and for the Airport Line to have a station at Moore Park.

We can thank Bob Carr for changing both plans to 'reduce costs'.

The whole Olympics precinct was basically designed for a 3 week one off event .. billions spent for 3 weeks .. with no future proofing anywhere..

What fans of Sydney clubs don't get, is that in Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland, Gold Coast, etc everybody leaves their suburb to go to the game. Nobody actually lives in Milton, everybody travels to get to Suncorp. So when the idea of playing a few games at Allianz causes Cronulla fans to get their backs up, most of us just shake our heads. A few on here on both sides carry on like mongs about it and it's f**king tiresome.

People in Brisbane noped out of QEII stadium, which is not that far at all from the city.
