2025 Crowd Watch

We've reached the point where nearly 40% of our standalone games draw a 20k+ crowd. 76 out of 194 games last year. Probably 76 out of 192 games this year (66 so far). Unavoidable drop for the Panthers this year (9 down to 1), big rise for the Bulldogs (4 up to 10). Other big scores Broncos 12 (last year 12), Warriors 10 (10), Knights 8 (10), Dolphins 7 (6), Roosters 7 (6), Storm 7 (6).

'Capacity crowd up at Newcastle!' *half the stand empty*

Not a knock on Newcastle who have great crowds, but it's starting to get a little tiring across the board. If you're claiming a sell out you shouldn't be seeing half the ground empty.

If anyone at the NRL is reading this, please do something about with the clubs. Ticketing exchange, official mechanism for members to transfer tickets, incentivised system for members to turn up, etc. Plenty of avenues. When someone gets up from their chair at the Oscars, another quickly swoops in to fill it for them. Appearance matters. We're locking out fans, potentially young and new, under the guise of these bogus full houses.

I’d say that the Newcastle knights fans are the best or more specifically the most loyal ahead of the warriors and broncos fans for the simple reason that they keep turning up in huge numbers even though their team have been garbage for years.

This recent trend of concern on “look at all the empty seats when it’s a sell out!!” is equally as grating.

There are no more tickets to sell. The Knights have a large enough ticketed membership, that they’ve already got the money if members can’t attend.

Life happens, people can’t always make the footy when they’ve got a ticket. They might try, or decide not to unload a ticket.

Concern on “optics” of a few thousand seats also doesn’t account - people move around, at any event outside of day a GF etc, stadiums rarely look like every single seat is occupied for every minute.

Exactly mate. The debate is tiresome and pointless.
