TBF they have contributed by winning four GF`s in a row and being the team to beat, that`s got to be worth a few thousand extra through the turnstiles, even if they aren`t Panthers supporters.

Neutrals of course. But its the kids who really drive the ratings.

A normal weekend for any Australian child:

'Dad Dad can we please watch the Panthers game?'

'Well we will have to check with your mum...but it's alright with me if you put the game on'.

You know funny thing is, I used to do exactly the same thing when I was a boy, sitting at the dinner table busting to be excused so I could race into the loungeroom and see if the mighty Saints were on tv. All after the milking was done of course.

Lucky man.

I had to rely on around the grounds updates on 2GB while they called a more important game across town.

4,092 at Newcastle for today's first NRLW Elimination Final. Will say I'm a bit underwhelmed. Whilst relatively to most NRLW crowds this year, it's decent, it's a long way down from the last Finals match held in the Hunter.

Bulldogs Supporters and level 3 down to limited availability. Cat 1, 2 and 4 down to single seats. So probably 1000 or so tickets left in the lower bowl. Final crowd figure will now come down to level 6 sales. Did a quick test for each level 6 East bay - by attempting to buy 3 tickets together. Keep in mind bays become slimmer as they go higher. So 50% of rows sold is probably around 60-70% of capacity of the bay.

Got the following results - first row # is how far back sold, second row # is the total amount of rows in the bay.

613 - row 1/21 rows
612 - row 2/29 rows
611 - row 4/37 rows
610 - row 17/43 rows
609 - row 16/46 rows
608 - row 24/47 rows
607 - row 26/47 rows
606 - row 16/46 rows
605 - row 16/43 rows
604 - row 11/37 rows
603 - row 1/29 rows
602 - row 2/21 rows
601 - row 1/15 rows

I think the fact that 2023 was a huge season for the club in general made a big difference, the men won 10 games in a row to get a home final so both our teams ended up having home finals. The town was in good spirits re: the Knights. Compare to this year, I imagine most of our fans wanted to forget the Knights exist, and I don't really blame them.

Definitely a fair call. I mean 4K is still a solid crowd for a competition that generally averages around 2K for standalone games, so I know I'm definitely grading them harsher than I would for a lot of NRLW teams, its just Newcastle has shown multiple times now to really get behind big Women's RL matches.

Canberra is a city of 450,000. Sydney is a city of 5,500,000.

No excuses for a final not to be sold out. None.
But Canberra have one team and Sydney has 8.5 teams (Dragons being the 0.5), so 647,000 per team in Sydney. Given Bruce Stadium fits 24,000, that would mean a Sydney team need to get 36,000 to be the equivalent of a Bruce sellout taking into account the population ratio difference (1.43). Canterbury should have 50,000 fans there tomorrow and Penrith might get 10,000-15,000 there. 65,000 ain't too shabby bad compared to Canberra selling out a 24,000 venue, when essentially there is a 1.43 pop ratio difference per team.

According to rothfield the NRL are expecting a crowd of 55k tops, blaming roosters drug drama with costing the game publicity…

Well, I for one am shocked! Who could have possibly imagined a finals game talked up in Sydney would inevitably fall below expectations?

They got us again!

As has already been mentioned in this thread, the record Week 2 NRL Finals crowd is 54,626 for Parramatta vs South Sydney at the SCG in 1965.

You’re saying a record Week 2 Finals crowd is an embarrassment. That’s kind of embarrassing for you, not the NRL.
