Tainted everything you said above with this part of your post. Disagree that it will be a plastic name (I born and raised on the Sunshine Coast) & unnecessary to attack “Sydney folk” because of your own biases.
Moreton Bay Dolphins means nothing. It just makes people feel good because supposedly it appeals to more people.

Redcliffe Dolphins is the club name and has been for 80 odd years. If you as a Sunny Coaster want to follow them, then follow them. But don't expect them to change the name for you.

People from all over Queensland love the Broncos and the name Brisbane works just fine without alienating anyone.

All disagree that carrying their traditional suburban name limits their attendance to people from that suburb, the premise is ridiculous.

Redcliffe Dolphins = one of the most famous sporting brands in Queensland.

Moreton Bay Dolphins = plastic name, made up to make Sydney folk feel better about the team name so it "appeals to a wider audience"

lol - Not everything is a Sydney conspiracy mate …from what I can see there are two people here arguing for a a wider regional name …a Knights fan and a Dogs fan from Brisbane …

I suspect most people from Sydney haven’t given the matter a second thought

At the end of the day, you are entitled to your opinion. In my view a new NRL club needs to appeal to more people than just Redcliffe supporters. It needs to appeal to people in Northern Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. I'm not convinced naming them Redcliffe does that, but I'm quite happy to be proven wrong.

It's also got nothing to do about people in Sydney. We are all Rugby League fans (well most of us) and want the team to succeed long term.

Add me, an Eels fan. They 100% should be called Brisbane Dolphins or maybe North Brisbane Dolphins or some other with Brisbane in it.

Agreed, we can both have our views. I'm just interested if you think Canterbury, Parramatta, Penrith, Manly and Cronulla should also change their name?

that is stupid they have had those names / identities for 40 plus years and they were established when the comp was just Sydney suburbs. 2 of them should relocate and change their name though.

Why should they?
To maximise there chances of being as big or bigger than the Broncos at some point in the next 30 years and to not kick an own goal. Naming themselves Brisbane would be the best way to upset the Broncos and calling themselves Redcliffe would be the best way to simp to the Broncos. A good name would by the Redcliffe Simp-fins.
There are heaps of other great reasons that I will add shortly.
Basically, they should be what Atletico Madrid is to Real Madrid rather than what Getafe FC is to Real Madrid. I had to look Getafe FC up its a simpburb of Madrid.

Have they mentioned how many Queenslanders travelled down for the GF and ho many Melbournians? I'd like to know the estimates at least.

Not full now, but looks pretty good for the PM XIII women’s match.

Maybe 8,000 there? What’s the capacity going to be for when the PNG team are in the NRL? 15,000?

Canterbury, Parramatta, Penrith, Manly, and Cronulla have been in the competition for decades (and there is debate whether Cronulla should even be in the competition). The Dolphins (whilst having a rich history) are a new team in the NRL. Different expectations.

We want the Dolphins to grow to the point where they can rival the Broncos. I'm not sure they can do that as Redcliffe.

The Dolphins were in a first grade Rugby League competition until 1996 just like Canterbury, Parramatta etc were since their inception and are an incredibly strong brand in Queensland sport because of it.

Not that any of that is relevant as to why they have to change their name because... reasons. Canterbury can draw fans from all over Sydney with a Suburban name just like many teams in many sports do, so there is zero reason why Redcliffe is the exception to that rule.

Even with the 'Redcliffe' missing from the NRL team's name now, no one in Brisbane is confused about where they are based and it is no impediment to them drawing fans from all over Brisbane.
