He got to a prelim last year... You think the team was better than Penrith or Melbourne?

The year before he got to week 2. Have a look at the team that played that game, ravaged by injury.
On paper? Absolutely.

He got them to a prelim by finishing top 4 but they never ever looked like a match for the top teams during the year. They should have been at least competing with Storm and Penrith with that roster but they never got close even earlier in the season before injuries struck.

Last year was about right for the chooks, finished top 4 and went out in the prelims. Without Sam Walker had an average Smith partnering a nearly fully potatoed Keary in the halves.

Now Keary has retired they’ve replaced him with Chad Townsend who is a double potatoed Keary. They’ve also lost several other key players and signed no one of note. Top 8 would be a pass mark.

I’m not critical of Robbo about how they went out the end of the year given the injuries, but in recent years despite having the best roster in the league I can’t remember them ever beating the top teams once during the regular season when they had all their players. There may have been a time I’m forgetting but I can’t remember any.

I don’t think they’ve had the best roster, in the space of 2 seasons since 2019 they lost Cronk, Latrell, Morris, Cordner, Friend, Aubusson, among others. They required a rebuild, but the state of the league at the time allowed them to stay thereabouts. They not been a premiership side since Cronk retired, they’ve been well short of Penrith for years.

Yeah we’ll have to agree to disagree as I’ve seen their roster as the best, or at least most expensive for a few years now where Penrith have been losing a lot of players in recent years. I get others might not though.

I just don’t think he’s gotten the best out of the roster he’s been blessed with in recent years.

FTR I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s no more sackings for the year. There’s slim pickings in terms of replacement options across the board.

They lost to both teams by 6 points.

Are you saying the pass mark last year was the GF?

Have to say O'Brien is looking like the favourite at the moment. The Knights were absolutely dire on Sunday. I've seen under 7's teams with better attacking plays than what the Knights served up against the Tigers.

Pass mark for Robbo this year would also be bottom of the 8 - he's still got enough good players on the roster and better resources than most coaches. He should have done a lot better with the squad he had the last few years though and that's just a fact.
What are these better resources Robbie supposedly has access to? Is it a better Coe? More masseurs, dieticians etc? Better business connections to entice signings? Or is it Nick's golf game?
