2025 Match Review & Judiciary charges

I watch almost every game in every round.
It's incredibly rare that a player loses his feet and puts his weight of pressure on the neck like that.

There is a reason why he binned for it, i can't remember the last time a crusher got binned, because most of them are fairly innocuous.
But the referee explained exactly why that was and why they considered it particularly dangerous, and the MRC has confirmed it as such.

But go ahead and check notes about who the dogs are playing next week, and then check your notes on who Preston plays for and who you support and have a think about who's biases might be more at play here.
Hitching your wagon to the bunkers interpretation of the rules is doubly hilarious. It was such an egregious tackle, that it was play on until Tino sooked it up. Luckily he was able to play on at all to he honest. Lucky he's not wheelchair bound. It's unlikely the "worst crusher you've seen in years" only garners a grade 1 charge either, but play on.

What goes into that milk in Canberra? Why do you all turn into soccer mums foaming at the mouth for send offs and automatic weeks for every piece of incidental contact.

You're the one getting worked up and carrying on, buddy... have a look at the histrionics you're carrying on with.
All hot and bothered because someone said the tackle was dangerous and worthy of the punishment handed down given the circumstances and prior history.

A real delicate flower, aren't you?
Don't worry mate, the dogs will be fine without Preston for a few weeks and perhaps in that time he can consider what he can do differently so that he's not attracting so many crusher charges

Being accused of histrionics by the same person claiming this is the worst crusher tackle they've seen in years is obscenely ironic

"Luckily he was able to play on at all to he honest. Lucky he's not wheelchair bound."
"Tino lucky to be walking if we're being honest."

Na, you're right. Lol.

But if you can find me an example in the last 2 years of a crusher tackle where the player loses his feet and puts his weight of pressure on the neck like Preston did i'll happily concede the point. I don't recall seeing one like that for in recent times though.

Preston’s tackle is exactly the kind of crusher that they are trying to get out of the game. That the on-field ref missed it is an indictment of him, not a signal that it was a nothing incident.

Clearly Preston has form since it’s his 3rd or subsequent charge for the exact same thing. Perhaps he needs to look at his technique.

Oh and lest anyone think I’m letting my bias cloud my judgement, I would have much preferred that he play this week. Given the ridiculous calls for him to play Origin, it would have given me great satisfaction to watch Hudson Young put that ugly, overrated twerp back in his rightful place.

Finally a level head has entered the chat! I'm laying down my guns.

Not because I've changed my stance, I've just given it enough air time.

Ill take that as a firm "shit, no, i couldnt find an example"
Thanks for playing, champ. Better luck next time.

Dude Kurt Mann got done for one last year that was far more egregious an example, and copped his right whack for it. Guess what, I had no issue with it

Surely Jaydn Su'A had to have been charged with something??? Grade 4 contrary conduct to the ball, Bringing the game into disrepute as a minimum.

If you had no issue with the Mann suspension then why are you so hot and bothered about this one?
It's the same action from both players that causes the concern. They both leave the ground and when they do that they lose all control and the action is considerably more dangerous as a result.

That's why i said and stand by that it was one of the worst we've seen in years. But well done, Kurt Mann's is also one of the worst we've seen in recent years.

Seems to be a Bulldogs thing. Maybe they need to work on their technique a little so they can stop crushering people all the time.

It's good advice mate. I called Ciro last night and told him as such, and he said all wrestling has been banned at training because it upset too many people last time.

Where you stoned when you typed this?
So….. over the course of this weekend, there were a number of questionable decisions that were either not replayed, or not scrutinised on the footage…. Maybe I wasn’t so stoned…

Just off the top of my head in the 2 games I paid most attention to;

Sharks v Eels - A couple of high tackle penalties that looked nothing like high tackles. First one was against the Sharks and was replayed once, Cooper Cronk said ‘ohh no’ as it was replayed and was then cut off by Vossy I think. No more replays, no more commentary on it. There was another in the 2nd half that didn’t even get replayed.

Storm V Raiders - Raiders penalised for dragging Faalongo into touch, replayed once and showed it clearly wasn’t a penalty, ref changed his mind (clearly after a bunker messge) and instead went back to a late hit that wasn’t replayed on footage. Not a word said by the commentary team on the ref changing his decision…. Storm get the drop goal from the ensuing set, that is then miraculously ruled out on review due to the ‘elbow’ by the storm fella playing the ball. Yet the elbow was before the play the ball, and we’re only supposed to go back for serious foul play…. Again, nothing questioned by the commentary team.
The broadcasters have 100% been told to reign in the negativity and questioning of decisions.

Just on this, few things
i went back and watched the replay to get a look at the penalty on the Fa'alogo thing because i was confused, and it was 100% fair. Referee misspoke, he said a late hit but it wasn't a late hit, it was for a hit off the ball. Raiders player flies out of the line (i think it was Ethan Strange) and hits a sweep player off the ball.

regarding the storm play the ball, as soon as the FG is kicked instead of blowing the FG, the ref has his hands up and refers it to the bunker for the foul play... this is just a referee letting it play out and allowing himself the option of referring for a second look if he's afforded that chance.

Both of these calls are right and whilst the process isn't perfect id rather they get it right than get it wrong because they're dogmatic about process. The commentary team did a really poor job of explaining these situations to the fans on the couch... probably in part because they're watching the same footage as we are, so when we're confused, so are they.

Another reason why it's imperative that at the next round of TV Rights that the NRL insist on the broadcast partners are not calling football games of TV feeds and are actually in the ground. It's negatively impacting the TV product

But… he didn’t penalise that when it happened, he penalised them for 2nd effort to put him in touch. Only once the replay had shown that as a poor call did he revert back to a different penalty. It’s a really poor look, even if there was a legit late hit penalty.
