I imagine it's probably because it's a better contrast against the Dragons than any of their jerseys that have red or white dominating.

Even if they had a mostly gold jersey, it wouldn't be as good as black.

I'd like to see them move from Black to some shade of grey though - just to get away from the Bears mix of colours.
Makes sense! Although shouldn’t the nrl demand the dragons have a suitable alternative

Pretty obvious what Canterbury are releasing there. By far and away their best ever look, in my opinion.
For most clubs, 1995-96 was peak as far as their main/home jersey goes.

Even the "modern" jersey designs of the time (Manly's Pepsi jersey, Norths Citibank jersey, Parramatta's "blinds" jersey) were pretty cool.

The only two that were bad IMO were the Sharks Reebok jersey which somehow ended up being more cluttered than their classic 70s/80s jersey, and the mid-90s Balmain/Sydney Tigers jersey which was an abomination.

Not sure what others think but on heritage jerseys I believe it would be pretty cool if sponsors allowed the clubs to use block style lettering of the time.
Or just using similar fonts or styles of sponsors that the club has previously used (within reason and obviously not committing copyright).
I’m sure it would seem like negative in the eyes of the companies providing the money for the sponsors with their branding being altered, but the main target market that will be seeing these sponsors, the rugby league fans, will have a better opinion of that brand if they did so, and would probably make the brand more noticeable. I know I’d pay more attention to a sponsor that has altered their branding for the sake of the aesthetics of heritage jersey

As much as I love the Phins black jersey (I still wish they’d get rid of the ugly red piping around the shoulders and arm pits), their home is essentially fully red and the dragons home is mainly white. While they have a very similar overall colour palette, home vs home would’ve contrasted perfectly fine

And yet I thought Sharks Reebok and Tigers Jersey of that time were the best those clubs have ever had.

I’m not sure why (and I’m using Souths here as I go for them) they can’t make the 80s retro jumper (with Smiths Crisps) with the MG logo.
Slightly off topic but Saints should also have a retro mascot - the St George Bank green dragon. FMD the current one is shy-te.
