The Bulldogs’ defence is in another postcode compared with the rest of the comp. It moves like a piece of chain mail when viewed from an elevated position. The equal of 1995 Manly.

Reed Mahoney lives rent free in the mind of opposition coaches and players .His job is to unsettle opposition players. Particularly those with short fuses and there are a few in Souths’ lineup. Opposition players are too keen to take the bait and consequently lose focus on what they should be trying to do ie win matches. He’s Mick Ennis 2.1. Wayne will know that it’s a waste of time for his players to be involved in shenanigans like that and will instruct his players to ignore Mahoney.

Teams have to prepared to grind for 80 minutes to beat the Bulldogs. As soon as they look for easy options or short cuts they’ll come up short. I think teams see the smaller size of the Bulldogs’ forwards and they try to break down the front door. But the Bulldogs will lap that up.

Chad Townsend mentioned in a podcast last year that the Cowboys target the space next to Crighton’s left shoulder and had some success. Manly did the same the following week in the elimination match. Apart from an Adam Reynolds type short kicking game from Walker there aren’t really any other ways of breaking down the Bulldogs’ defence. Montoya has improved this year but still may be caught rushing in off his wing or making a random handling error.

The Bulldogs are the real deal this year. Their defence has improved but not as much as their attack. They’re quite capable of racking up 30 plus points against most opposition. Bulldogs by 20.
We'll throw weird sh*t at their defence they haven't countered yet. Cody and Latrell as a combo is about as off-the-cuff/eyes-up as you can get. It'll either work, or it won't (i.e. we'll score 30 or get held to 1 try or less). Good test for them.

I think our lack of metres coming out of our own end has been our biggest weakness for 5+ years now (even when we were a top 4 side)... hopefully CG on the wing will help that quite a lot. If he's fit.

Dogs have had a dream draw to date... this is the first top 8 side they have met. This will give us a good indication of where they are really at.

Dogs in a close one 16-14

It is good for rugby league when the match of the round is 2 big Sydney teams. This could be a grand final or prelim preview. And I'm sorry but it is just bigger than if it was say Titans and the Knights in the same spots on the ladder.

I think no matter what both of these teams will be in the top 4 in September. This result will help us identify the true heirarchy of the top 4 contenders. The winner goes to number 1 in the power rankings and the loser is with the Storm and the Broncos as the best of the rest.

Not bad. I've missed you so much.

This is gonna be a good one.

I wonder if the Dogs can handle the crowd? Some of them have probably never played in front of one this big.
It's the sort of crowd (85% Dogs) that if they get out to an early lead, they'll roll us by 30-40

But if we start fast and take an early lead it'll take the crowd out of the equation

In short, Souths by 2 or Bulldogs by 22

They are due for a loss. And quite a few of them aren't used to this kind of crowd. It might create pressure that they will struggle to handle.

The Dogs have been very good as the hunters fighting their way up the standings but how will they go today as the hunted? How will they handle being clear favourites and seen as heavy weight contenders after their bright start to the season on the back of making finals last year? Will they handle the pressure or will it get to them being expected to win in front of a packed stadium in a finals-like atmosphere?

Souths can go in as the underdogs looking to spoil the party with no added pressure than our own expectations. And if we can start well, it will add even more pressure via the scoreboard (hopefully) on the Dogs throughout the game.
