Cabramatta Leagues Club have withdrawn their teams from the Ron Massey and Sydney Shield competitions after just two rounds.

The Two Blues - who only just returned to Ron Massey after a multi-year absence - were undefeated in both competitions but pulled the pin due to funding issues.

The move has devastated the young players from both teams, who are now unlikely to be able to play for any other club and have to sit out the 2025 season.

"It's disgraceful - how can they just allow this to happen," one angry parent told Wide World of Sports.

"These kids trained their butts off all summer and started the season in great form. Now their teams have just been dissolved - they are devastated.

"Surely the NRL or a sponsor can come in and save them."

The club put out a statement on social media explaining the decision on Wednesday.

"At board level, the decision was made in August 2024, that the Cabra Leagues Two Blues would only be approved to enter into Ron Massey and Sydney Shield on the proviso that both teams were fully funded through sponsorships," the statement said.

"The senior football committee presented a business model for the 2025 competition to the board of Cabramatta Rugby League Club which relied heavily on sponsorship.

"Unfortunately, they did not achieve the outcome that was presented, and agreements was signed without Cabramatta Rugby League Club authority and proceeded to compete resulting in two matches played.

"Therefore, with a heavy heart, from the decision in August 2024, funding was not secured and Cabramatta Rugby League Club Board is not going to put the club at financial risk and is not entering into the Ron Massey and Sydney Shield Competitions."

Withdrawal of Ron Massey and Sydney Shield Football Competitions.

At Board level, the decision was made in August 2024, that the Cabra Leagues Two Blues would only be approved to enter into the Ron Massey and Sydney Shield Competitions on the proviso that both teams were fully funded through sponsorships.

The Senior football committee presented a business model for the 2025 competition to the Board of Cabramatta Rugby League Club which relied heavily on sponsorship. Unfortunately, they did not achieve the outcome that was presented, and agreements was signed without Cabramatta Rugby Leagues Club authority and proceeded to compete resulting in two (2) matches played.

Therefore, with a heavy heart, from the decision in August 2024, funding was not secured and Cabramatta Rugby League Club Board is not going to put the Club at financial risk and is not entering into the Ron Massey and Sydney Shield Competitions of 2025.

The Cabramatta Leagues Club has negligible profits for about 10 years. A few years ago there was a takeover offer on the table with $1 million per annum available, with half of that to go to Massey/SS football but the leagues club members voted against it. The Club was established to promote RL but its current members have no interest in RL.

An absolute disgrace.
Pathetic by the licenced club to neglect RL. I remember through covid they cancelled all their teams which was also a poor decision.
Its also not the first time that the club Football and Licensed have let the players down by not getting their act together. Its also hard for a couple of individuals that have worked hard
