Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has compared Dylan Egan to Panthers’ Clive Churchill Medallist Liam Martin, which is a pretty fair wrap.

If Egan turns out to be even half the player Kangaroos and Blues star Martin is, then the Dragons will be very happy.

Egan moves into the club’s NRL squad for 2025 having spent the 2024 season on a development deal and is a big chance to debut in Round 1.

A Gerringong Lions junior, Egan has progressed through the club’s pathways system having played two seasons of Harold Matthews Cup and two seasons of SG Ball with the Steelers.

He was the captain of the Steelers SG Ball Cup outfit in 2023 and made the leap up to Jersey Flegg Cup level later in the season.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a standout NSW Cup campaign in 2024 appearing in all 24 games and scoring seven tries.

Liam Martin turned 22 just before his debut 5 years ago

Egan still 20yrs old ? May have just or about to turn 21yrs...............if Dylan debuts in the NRL before Liam Martin that would be a fair effort and especially if he plays 10 games plus in say 2025 or 2026

Martin played 16 games in his debut year similar to Toby Couchman but Couchman was only 19yrs old > 3 years younger !!!!!

Egan born 5th September 2004. So he is 20 and 2 months.

It seems like Flanno is going to promote most of his pack in-house. It may be the right idea seeing as the Top 30 salary cap is $12m and two top level props will eat up $2m.

For example, Payne Hass extended for three years for $3.5m. Fonua Blake is on $1m at the sharks.

Still think we need at least one experienced pack leader to help bring on our youngsters and if Lawrie can get back to his best then he can play a supporting role...

With these revelations regarding Lodge and even May, it gives some relevance to why we are still (albeit unfortunately) seeing Eisenhuth listed on our "Team" page.
It sort of feels like 'plan C' in process.

Here we are. Two main positions that our recruitment staff have had plenty of time to sort out and get. We have had the need for a big, hard, tough, no nonsense prop and of course a more than equal half back to replace the not so popular former Broncos half back who is taking his time to sort out where he wants to end up. Flanno has identified the need for a really decent middle forward and this has dragged on forever - no AFB and no RCG but it seems signing one of these big boppers is harder than winning Powerball as maybe NOWTC to this club who is decent.

In the case of a replacement half back, Flanno has said that he was wanting to see where BH ends up so that he can see what all of the options are. Surely, the ones that we could get now cannot wait for his decision as BH could take ages still and those that we could have gotten by now have changed their minds?

The two main positions and in the end we possibly won't get anyone decent for both.

Christian Nicolussi has reported that we have zero interest in Brodie Croft

Sharks and Storm both do not want to release Atkinson and Wishart respectively

As of now options are Illias and Doueihi
They still have to buy someone for 2026 bcs we do not have anyone coming through.
