Is Viliami Fifita the forgotten man ? A lot of talk about our forwards & the need for another prop, he joined us with big wraps & Flanno obviously sees something in him. He had a number of injuries last year IF he has a big off season he could be a smokey for us next year. He has to have a big year otherwise i think he will be moved on in 2026.
I'm sure Fifita is in our top 30 and would perform better next season if injury-free and fully fit. The problem we have is that we need an experienced alpha prop. Fifita, and the Couchman Twins will most likely be included in the top 17 next season. I'd like to see the following forwards in our pack in 2025:

8. Molo
9. Cook
10. Lodge
11. Leilua
12. Su'A
13. Sele

14. Liddle
15. De Belin
16. Fifita
17. Coucman

If these players are fully fit, the Dragons should have no trouble holding their own in 2025. All of the above forwards (exempt Lodge) are in our top 30.

Once we sign Lodge, we should begin to fill two more spots in our top 30 (exit Ravalawa and Lawrie).

According to an article in Fox Sports Nathan Lawson has been promoted to the top 30 squad, leaving one Development spot open.
News to me.
Hi Desperate
I've managed to get the details of our Top 30 etc from Foxsports and there is one glaring mistake that they have made and that is the inclusion of Max Feagai who as we know has gone to the Dolphins which Fox shows in our losses. The guy who prepared our list doesn't know how to count. So yes, taking Max out and including Lawson, that completes our Top 30. However, I still think that Fox has made a mistake and put Lawson in but he shouldn't be included as he has been stated in our website that he has joined the supplementary list in 2025 and Flanno is still after a middle forward which he will keep a spot in the Top 30 available for.

If it may just become the case that Flanno will cut some players to make way for others he can fit under the cap.

If any of the following players find a new club, Flanno may let them go early if he wants to sign a couple of props:
Ravalawa
Lawrie
Sloan
Feagai

BMM listed as Development player. That bloke debuted years ago, even played in the Super League. How does the NRL allow him to be on that list? Should be be for young players coming through.
The Foxsports Top30 list I have shown to have errors and that also now includes the reference to Development List of Players which in 2023 under a change in the Salary Cap structure was replaced with the Supplementary List where Supplementary List of Players will be entitled to $80,000pa. BMM is included in the Supplementary List as per the Dragons Website -

Dragons lock up Australian Schoolboy on upgraded deal

The young gun is still eligible for the Harold Matthews Cup in 2024.

Scott Pryde

EDITOR | September 21, 2023 - 10:16am

Young gun second-rower Jacob Halangahu has put pen to paper with the St George Illawarra Dragons on a deal that will see him become a fulltime NRL player from 2025.

Currently on the Sunshine Coast ahead of the Australian Schoolboys clash with the Papua New Guinea under-20s side in Port Moresby, Halangahu is rated as one of the best young talents in the game.

A second-rower, he captained the Dragons Harold Matthews side this year and will likely make the jump to the under-19s SG Ball side next year before pushing for Jersey Flegg honours.

He will be a development player in 2024 before moving further up the chain at the Dragons, with the young gun saying the deal hasn't sunk in yet.

“It's pretty surreal at the moment,” Halangahu said in a club statement announcing the news.

“It hasn't really sunk in. I'm over the moon to get it done... I'm top 30 end of next year. I'll move down to Wollongong from Sydney. Get that under my belt and then see where it goes.”

A Penrith local junior, Halangahu has played his football for the Minchinbury Jets and Brothers Penrith before making the switch to the Dragons at Harold Matthews Cup level.

He said that despite being eligible for the Harold Matthews Cup again, he wants to play SG Ball in 2024.

“I want to do up an age in SG Ball for preseason,” he said.

“Then play SG Ball, and hopefully, by the end of the year, start playing Flegg and training with Flegg.”

The youngster is a long-term friend of Finau Latu, who is also in the Australian Schoolboys squad, and has also signed an upgraded deal at the Dragons in recent times.

The Dragons have put a particular emphasis on securing their own youth pathways in recent times after going through a period of losing the club's most talented players.

While Jayden Sullivan has departed, the Dragons have locked up a host of young players who are yet to play first-grade, or are on the fringes of first grade. Sione Fainu recently added to his time at the Dragons, while Savelio Tamale, Dylan Egan, Nick Tsougranis and Hamish Stewart all extended their time at the club earlier this year.

Surprised Halangahu is not on that supplementary/development list.
Man of Match in SOO juniors and sg ball final. He is our highest quality junior
There must be a plan for him, especially naming him on the T&T list.
Flanagan also said in an interview a little while back that he would not be surprised if Halangahu played first grade later in 2025.
I agree JubileeJ, Halangahu is an absolute gun in what is an outstanding list of young guns on the rise at the Dragons.

If Lawson is now top30 that means no more spots available unless players move on ?

Halangahu not listed in top30 nor Supp list ???

yet the article above Halangahu states he will be a top 30 going into 2024 pre season ?

he is stated as a TT player

does that mean we have at least two players still to move on ? Ie one spot for Halangahu and on for a prop ?

Yeah I picked up on that as well Auntie. Hopefully the young lad just got his dates mixed up and he's been put straight now. Maybe he meant he'll be training with the 30, not actually in the 30. Hope to hell he's not been promised something that hasn't been delivered, but that seems unlikely.

Great to see so many juniors get a crack at the top 30, Egan, Stewart, Latu, Tonga. Really looking forward to seeing how they get on.

And the train and trial list is packed with talent as well.

I guess they're still holding that last spot for a middle forward. I really think if we get a decent prop into the squad we are a finals team for sure.
