I'm not a expert when it comes to ratings but why is it the AFL have a higher reach? Is it because the game lasts longer?????? And I've also seen where the NRL rates higher but lower reach, and in some cases where the AFL have lower ratings but higher reach, something just doesn't add up.. 🤔

Kayo Sports has recorded its biggest viewing weekend ever with audiences surging on the sports streaming platform to watch a massive schedule of sport including AFL Gather Round, NRL, the Masters Tournament, Formula 1®, Supercars, MotoGP, UFC, Super Netball, IPL and the NBA on ESPN.

From Thursday to Monday, a record 844 million minutes were streamed on Kayo Sports, up 16% on the previous biggest viewing weekend in March 2025.

In addition, AFL Gather Round achieved the largest Gather Round audience since its inception in 2023 while the Masters Tournament achieved its largest audience ever across Foxtel Group platforms, Kayo Sports, Foxtel, Foxtel Now and Foxtel Go.

Kayo Sports CEO Julian Ogrin said: “Sport delivers unmatched passion and emotion and there is nowhere else in Australia fans can enjoy the variety of the greatest sports on a single platform than on Kayo Sports. A second viewing record within a month is testament to our commitment to providing the best viewing experience for our subscribers.”

Across the weekend, Kayo Sports was the exclusive home to AFL on Saturday, NRL on Saturday, the Bahrain Grand Prix, the Masters Tournament, the Super Netball, IPL, the New Zealand Taupo 440 Supercars and UFC 314.

Julian continued: “From Aussie Oscar Piastri’s victory, to Gather Round in South Australia, Aussie Volk’s reclaiming of the featherweight belt at UFC 314 to Rory McIlroy’s emotional Masters win, there was so much for Aussies to enjoy exclusively on Kayo Sports over the weekend. From the article

In February, DAZN withheld half of its €70 million (US$79.4 million) payment, alleging that the LFP had not done enough to combat piracy. It also blamed the league and clubs for failing to promote its coverage and for not cooperating on content. The LFP proceeded to take DAZN to court for its owed money, which DAZN eventually paid at the end of the month.

Both sides then entered a mediation process in March in an attempt to find a compromise. According to multiple reports, the mediator offered a solution that would see DAZN pay the league €140 million (US$158.8 million), the full amount it owes for this season, and an additional fee of up to €125 million (US$141.8 million) in compensation for the following campaign. The deal with DAZN would then be terminated at the end of the current season.

At a meeting held this week, Ligue 1 clubs voted in favour of the proposal. However, DAZN has now rejected the offered solution, opening the door for formal legal action to take place.

Thats more of a venue choice for the AFL though. Play Good Friday at the MCG and it pulls another 20,000. For some reason Victorian fans and the Victorian AFL clubs much prefer the MCG to Docklands.
