Yeh got forbid there are nrl fanboys on a rugby league forum

This forum is hilarious at times
The distinction is with fans and fanboys. The problem is so many on here refuse to even attempt to use any sort of logic and will post absolute dribble to defend their precious sport at all costs. Same as all the laughable shit we all mock that gets posted at big footy.

There are some mega fans on this forum, people who spend huge amounts of money on the sport or who are even out there helping to spread the sport (including to other countries). I know of a couple of people who paint their houses in support of their team.

I’ve got no problem with people being massive fans of the game. You just don’t have to turn into a blathering fool at the mere possibility that someone is talking down the game.

This is way off topic anyway.

And those Roy Morgan polls are surely a joke, 2 years ago eels had 590k fans and now 430k , where did they all go ? Sure people jump on bandwagons when there is success but they don’t change teams and if they do then they aren’t fans of any team. And I’ve lived in Sydney for 40 years and met less than 100 swans fans and as a tradesman travelling all over the city and in a new house every day I meet heaps of people

Given they average around 35 to 40k a game, they must have some fans.

A lot of talk about a river in Egypt among our friends at Bigfooty. Wookie being attacked for suggesting that 1. Reach is crap 2. NRL has slaughtered AFL this year

I've seen posters on big footy brag about the AFL having a bigger footprint in NSW and QLD than the NRL do in SA, WA, Tasmania and Victoria.

Do they not realise they have a head start of around 80 years? It wasn't until the 1940s when Rugby League made its way to the AFL states, while AFL has been played in NSW and QLD since the 1860s.

How many GWS fans have you met in Sydney? Asking for a friend.

Hey Wookie you never clarified your No answer on the Broncos Panthers prelim being the biggest ? You stated Alf had 2.4m 7 & fox and this game had 2.7m 9 & fox, so just wanted to confirm that it is the biggest outside of grand finals for either code ?
I thought that was implied in my response

I’m sure they do , in a city of 5-6m but to suggest they have 1.3m ? Anyway I’ve always thought the difference between a fan and a supporter is that the supporters will go to games and invest in their team with memberships and merchandise

People who pay full price for a ticket regularly ?

2 to 3k

We’ve seen in the suns and giants how sucessful afl is in nsw and qld without a super league war
It’s also the benefit of being the only team in the state which is why I’m wary of a second Melbourne team.

I live in the Hunter and clearly the AFL is a nothing sport here. Yet I know so many people who are casual fans of the swans. None of them really follow the AFL and they don’t watch the games regularly on TV but if asked which AFL team they support they’d say the swans are their team. Most support either NRL, soccer or union first though.

I think some of that is the leftover effect of the super league war (AFL gained a lot of casual popularity in the early 2000s) and the swans and lions were the default teams in those states.

It’s why I take anything talk about the number of fans a club has with a grain of salt as these numbers often don’t translate to anything meaningful. I think this is a part of why the AFL has higher reach, they have a lot of people in NSW and QLD who might be interested enough to flick over and check the score but that’s about it.

The amazing part of the ratings is big following teams like Eels, Souths & Dragons that have struggled ,yet people have followed on the box with a huge increases in ratings.

That is why it's so important that FTA maintain a fair share, but employ commentators who are able to name the players and put more theatre into the call. If that means ch10 so be it.

Ratings going to be largely irrelevant for the next few years anyway

Once the tv daal gets locked they won’t matter

Until Perth and png kick in and the latter especially changes the ratings landscape
