…. Aren’t you all about risk?
And opportunity
The chances of that run leading to a try would’ve been somewhere between just as likely to marginally higher than if he took a hitup centrefield. But by playing off the cuff hero, he took away the mitigation of a field goal attempt as alternative, not just scoring play but highly likely matchwinning play.

Just because almost (because Ray Stone) all tries are scored when not attempting a field goal, doesn’t mean every time you don’t attempt a field goal, you score a try. Nor does it mean the field goal is more risky. It’s just less efficient, but when you’ve only got to score a point, it’s as efficient as a try
The risk with field goal attempt is the possibility of a seven tackle set. And remember he only crabbed when he saw an opportunity, and only crabbed as far as he did while the opportunity was on. He didn’t just get the ball and refuse to get smashed for a one metre gain (and slow play the ball) for shits and gigs. He was responding to the defence, which was anticipating a field goal attempt.

I think they’re taking advantage of a weak era. You can only play what’s in front of you but if their players were they great they’d dominate at rep level. I think they’re a huge chance in this weak competition.

I wouldn’t say weak era , I would say they were the beneficiaries of the rule change to 6 again that suited their squads and players coming through (have more players with better lateral movement in feowards) plus it’s an era that where all the refs have been conditioned to just let the sides do whatever they want and break rules , and ref harshly certain sides

I think it started that way and then he very quickly realised he f**ked up and then continued to crab in an attempt to correct his f**k up eventually making said f**k up even more of a f**k up.

Taking a risk isn’t a f**k up. The only thing merkins deserve blame for is lack of effort.

It’s a team sport. Do you honestly reckon Stuart would’ve been happier with Young taking risk or prefer the team to work to an endpoint rather than “playing eyes up” football? Ignore the actual result even.

They used to be one of the worst offences in the game. Remember Jim Mills?
The NRL has gone soft on them lately.
I'm not surprised at this charge as the NRL want Walsh playing every game possible.

to be fair the NRL has set a precedent in the last few years by valuing finals games a bit higher than regular games which means there's some leniency towards foul play.
