My point still stands. There aren’t 100 million of them.
Yes nowhere near 100 million.

But to be fair. I am in China, and on AFL GF Day we regularly gather with a crowd of 200-300 in my city. If this plays out across China that is not small.

We don't do this for NRL but this is partly because those Aussie expats (me included) are more invested in the result and watch from home.

Shed in Shanghai (Jingan location) used to pump for both finals, Origin as well.

AFL are bringing out Kylie in the hopes that females and lgbt population will tune in in droves to watch the fumble final.

its quite pathetic. First they leaked the idea about a twilight GF with Kylie to gauge fans reaction - they leaked it with the pitch of ‘Kylie will be the key to unlocking a twilight grand final’. they were hoping people would say “omg yesss so worth having a twilight grand final for Kylie” - they didn’t get that.

So now they’re trying to look like heroes by keeping it at day time. They still see Kylie as the key to helping beat the nrl ratings by attracting the non-fumble non-sport fan to watch.

By announcing it so early in the year they want to hype it up and get the female / lgbt crowd circling the afl grand final date on their calendar.

The nrl beating them last year has surely rattled them. nrl will still win even if we trotted out my mate from the pub as the entertainment

Seriously. What on earth is wrong with booking Kylie as pre-match entertainment?

I don’t believe the choice of music act affects the ratings much for Grand Finals anyway. The key factors are the popularity of the teams involved and whether the game is a close contest.

It’s actually very clever from the alf. All the rusted on fans will watch the game no matter the pre game entertainment and then they will attract the lgbt and women who normally wouldn’t watch it and hope they stay tuned in for the game

Kylie is the equivalent of Dolly Pardon, great icon with a fantastic music career but past her used by date in the 21st century.

Kylie seems like a pretty good choice tbh. I don’t think it impacts ratings all that much and the main thing it does is generate conversation which this announcement seems to have done. Prefer local singers as well.

Think there would be complaints no matter who it was.
