Say what you like, it's one of the greatest rivalries in Australian sport. Last night's game was an epic classic and the Cowboys-Manly game was a one-sided snoozefest.
State of Origin rates 5x higher than that 3 times a year. It wouldn’t be in the top 10 rivalries in Aus sport for national audience engagement. And as you say an epic classic vs a one sided snoozefest and it got 140k more viewers? Thats a worry

A Carlton v Collingwood Grand Final would easily outrate any State of Origin game. Unfortunately it has not occurred since 1981 and is unlikely to happen in the near future.

Anyway, time to watch the Storm return to the winners list in Canberra.

Unfortunately we deal with facts and there is no data to prove that, what we do know is NRL outrates AFL by around 50% on total viewership over a season, also has 4 of the top 5 annual highest rating shows on fta and has the record for highest rating broadcast on Fox

lol funny, you don’t like when there’s not sources on numbers and then you make up random ludicrous statements.

Carlton and Collingwood gf would have little interest in nsw or qld aka half the country. We see it in ratings this week - 700k nationwide. How many does state of origin get again, and 3x a year? Also even though it’s qld vs nsw the league state of origin has strong nation wide ratings. Data we actually have, not your fanciful claims based on nothing but wishful thinking and nonsense

Collingwood has the most supporters in NSW after the Swans, and the most in QLD after the Lions. You just have no idea. Enjoy watching your St Merge Steelers continue their slide into irrelevance.

For those comparing Carlton and Collingwood to State of Origin, just some other figures to keep in context.

Thursday AFL in Sydney - not in the top 27 programs for Thursday

Thursday AFL in Brisbane - 28th most popular program - 28,000 (NRL: 137,000) (ABC Grand Designs: 43,000)

I'm not saying the AFL ratings weren't good in Victoria. But the ratings for this AFL game are basically driven by one state. Please stop the State of Origin comparisons.

I just noted that it's one of the top rivalries in Australian sport

You were one of the people comparing it to State of Origin.

It was mostly watched in one state - Victoria.

State of Origin is popular in more than 1 state - NSW & QLD.

2 > 1
Collingwood has the most supporters in NSW after the Swans
That explains why your massive blockbuster rivalry game -- featuring two teams that would be bigger than State of Origin -- one of which is the second most supported AFL team in NSW -- didn't make the Top 27 programs in Sydney last night...

Crowds: Carlton v Collingwood
Ratings: NRL State of Origin
Crowds - AFL but not by much. It all depends where the SOO game is played.

In Sydney SOO gets 80k. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the game last night get 78k?

Last time SOO was in Melbourne it got 90k. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 90k > 78k too. Strange.

As for ratings - Last night AFL was 715k average with 1900k reach on FTA.
Last year State of Origin rated 927k with a 2009k reach, so yeah I guess AFL was only a couple of thousand behind.

Oh wait, that's women's SOO. Men's was 3904k average with a 5657k reach.

So 3 Men's State of Origin games > 3 Women's State of Origin games > Carlton vs Collingwobbles.

State of origin is a sellout every single time and location. Crowd comparison is a completely moot point.

you’ve been absolutely slaughtered again with your drivel, yet you keep flogging your fumble crap in here.

It’s funny how fumblers are so jealous of state of origin and try to compare their suburban clashes that only Victorians compare about it with it

Because the troll kept bringing up reach and other Alf stuff I had a look at last night ratings , interesting that between the pre game shows which I’m assuming both go for 30 mins ? NRL had a much bigger reach and average to the AFL
