Reality also is 150 million isn’t enough

it should be 300 million for a totally new stand full of corporate seating like the western side of commbank

Cheers, makes sense. Didnt realise he was from Perth. I had heard that one of the bid team made his money from HJ but thought it was a franchise owner, not the actual man himself!

Might be wrong that he is from Perth .. but I heard an interview from Cumins that he has been working with him for a while …he wouldn’t have a connection to the Jets or Singleton

Sure they have small crowds now, just like every other second tier club. If the Bears can’t provide any way support at Sydney games, then they certainly have little to offer and should be consigned to history. How many would turn up for a final played at Alliance?

What do you think became of Bears fans from 25 years ago? Do they follow other NRL clubs? Swans?
Most of them are dead.

You know all the tradies in Sydney live in western Sydney so the prices are the cheapest

cross the bridge and the prices go up to 50 percent

150 million would be a budget build

I’m sure the wa govt will put in the extra to do something properly the first time

which will help the club make more money (and people here are crying about lol)

Gerry Harvey and Jack Cowin have also been mentioned this week in articles as interested investors. Not sure if that is Jets linked or generally in a perth bid. Are either of them Jets connected?
No I have never linked. Or heard of Gerry Harvey
Being associated with Newtown Jets
But his best mate singo is a big jets fan

The difference is Sydney has around 100 NRL regular season games each year. Perth will have a maximum of 12.

Sydney clubs take games interstate in exchange for money from the host town/city. If they played these games at their traditional home they would make less money due to poor returns on game day. They're not taking these games interstate out of kindness.
Precisely - and it's often lower-pulling games against interstate teams that get sold to other markets, because they know they can get more by moving it than playing that game in Sydney.

The challenge for the NRL is whether there's any way NRL head office can influence (or dictate, if need be) those games to be taken to markets that feed into a longer term expansion strategy - eg regular reliable games in Adelaide, Fiji, chosen possible expansion locations in NZ.. with an eye towards the next expansion after we have 20 teams.

Bold section - that’s impossible unless you know that the merits are. And because you’re talking with authority over the merits, please share with us what merits the ARLC will use to determine the next three licenses. Thanks
I think they spoke about financial sustainability, adding new fans/players to the game, not cannabalising current clubs and providing value to the broadcasters.

It can be argued that the Brisbane Tigers, North Sydney Bears and Newtown Jets will "cannibalise" clubs in SEQ/Sydney.

Perth is the only bid that has strong potential to add new fans and players to the game without cannibalising existing clubs.

Christchurch might add new fans and players, but they might also draw a few away from the Warriors.

PNG adds nothing but a $600m bill footed by the Australian tax payer. It won't have many active fans. Nor will it produce players any time soon.

Of all the bids, the Brisbane Tigers provide the most value to broadcasters. They represent the largest underserviced traditional rugby league market in the world. TV ratings in Brisbane for Queensland teams are massive. There's only four clubs in the state. Much of the game's broadcast revenue is generated by rugby league fans in Brisbane. A fifth team provides more content for Ch9. Head of Strategy WWOS, Simon Fordham has stated Ch9 wants another team in Brisbane and more content based out of Lang Park.

I honestly don't see how the Jets and Bears add value to the broadcast rights. They'll be viewed as a Perth club by everyone in Sydney that isn't old enough to remember the North Sydney Bears and Newtown Jets. There's already nine clubs representing Sydney. It's not like the broadcasters have limited choice to cover the Sydney market.

We don't know how much the NZ broadcasters are willing to pay for NZ2. They didn't pay much for NZ1 until they had competition from Spark Sport. Spark Sport went bust.

PNG will provide sweet f**k all. All games in PNG are exclusively broadcast by Digicel. A Digicel subscription costs about $75 or more per month (Australian currency). There's outrage among Papuans because most cannot afford it.

Brisbane and magic weekend

didn’t you previously say Perth would struggle to get crowds ?

That’s the kind of 180 Perth red does !
In my opinion, Perth will struggle to generate crowds once the novelty wears off and the team drops down the ladder. However, it meets the ARLC's stated goal of generating new fans in an untapped market without cannibalising existing clubs.

What's your point about Magic Round?

The NRL introduced it when Brisbane had just one club. At the time there were just 12 guaranteed games played in Brisbane during the regular season. Manly and Melbourne took a game to Lang Park a few times.

Brisbane is the only place in Australia that can host Magic Round. No other city outside of Sydney has a suitable rectangular stadium. Brisbane is the only major rugby league market outside of Sydney that will support an event of this calibre. It was provided to Queensland after the ARLC used the Queensland Gov to get more money out of the NSW Gov for the NRL GF.

So taking one game away from Perth isn’t a big deal

magic round is taking home games away from current clubs and playing them in a market which already has a lot of games

If it’s ok for magic then it’s ok for nso

lol

If the NRl was a bit smarter it could help mitigate that risk. Holding a double header in Rd 1 at Optus every season, scheduling the Perth club to play more popular clubs over here etc. The good thing is if we do get mostly Sunday late afternoon games then its family friendly and kinder winter weather wise. Also easier to build a routine of attending if same KO time regularly. We wont get the advantage of away fans like Sydney and Brisbane teams but a15k min avg is def the goal with a 17-18k avg the target Id suggest.

I don't know what point you're trying to make.

A Sydney club makes more money from Magic Round than it would at its home ground.

A game at NSO isn't going to generate much revenue because it's a small oval with poor facilities.

A team from Perth will be travelling 4,000 kilometres every fortnight. Twelve occasions. Making them do it thirteen to fourteen times just because a few old Bears fans from Sydney want to watch a game at a dilapidated suburban ground is the definition of insanity.

Potentially

1. Perth stand alone … if the corporate backing is strong enough could convince pvl to change his mind esp as he’s happy with wa govt involvement

2. jets … basically above just using jets colours and having singleton and Jerry Harvey as minority owners vs the bears

3. bears … more fans and juniors and more value for tv

I suspect the arlc might brush the bears if the case is strong enough.

but the jets thing right now is a lot of hot air. Having singleton and Harvey closely involved in league again would be a huge gain for the sport

More than Crowe packer or cannon brooks

How do you know how much money it
Will make at nso ?

stop shifting the goal posts

if your against it for nso then magic should be stopped too Brisbane has two teams

lol

If they can average 15k with a mid-table roster then they will be doing well.
