An entire team of Craig "tugger" ColemansImagine waking up from a bit of a sleep in on Saturday morning and you flick the telly on and you get to watch your team from bed.
But what about Magic Round ?Brisbane is the only city that can pull it off.
Yep, defeats the purpose of having the atmosphere of all fans in the same precinct all weekendThe whole concept of magic round is having all the games in the one place.
Splitting it between cities defeats the purpose.
Yep, I get that, it will be much harder to do when you add an additional 2 games in that week where the conditions of the field and safety of the players has already been brought into question at the half way point of Magic Round as it is now.The whole concept of magic round is having all the games in the one place.

Sorry, but is that not covered by a 6pm kick off in WA?Ch9 and Foxtel will want a Friday and Saturday game played at 8pm AEST. They provide the bulk of the revenue from the broadcast deal.
Just give two teams a bye for Magic Round and keep it at 8 gamesYep, I get that, it will be much harder to do when you add an additional 2 games in that week where the conditions of the field and safety of the players has already been brought into question at the half way point of Magic Round as it is now.
Throw in the Olympics and potential stadia renovations through to 2032 and the NRL may need to look at alternate options to host their Magic Round. Hence the talking point that has been raised regarding potentially holding it in other cities; some of those that are earmarked as potential expansion locations.
What and just give 4 teams the bye when it’s a 20 team comp? Let’s just hold Magic Round around Origin as well.Just give two teams a bye for Magic Round and keep it at 8 games
It's not that hard, find out what the practical limit of games is on the turf in one weekend. Once you've got that number... lets say 8 then the the other 4 teams get a bye, OR they can just play against each other in their own stadiums over the weekend and not be part of magic round. What and just give 4 teams the bye when it’s a 20 team comp? Maybe they can take the Thursday night and the late Sunday slot, the two slots that Magic Round could function perfectly well without.
Magic round then proceeds with the participating teams all in one place at one stadium like it should be
Taking two games out so the event can proceed as designed is completely different to running two separate events with half the teams at each. Just think about the scheduling of games for starters. You want two to three hour blocks at each event with no games? Amazing atmosphere“But that defeats the point of magic round”.
if you’re going to take 2 games or 4 teams away from magic round because you can only physically play maximum 8 games on a field then you may as well do as I said and split Magic round into two 5 games events on the same weekend. Either all games in SEQ (Bris/GC) or split across two separate venues that maximise the broadcast timezones.
How is scheduling of games even an issue? Major events like the Euros and World Cup already do this.Taking two games out so the event can proceed as designed is completely different to running two separate events with half the teams at each. Just think about the scheduling of games for starters
There's no point in doing this. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.How is scheduling of games even an issue? Major events like the Euros and World Cup already do this.
Friday:
8pm NZ first game (6pm AEST)
6pm AWST Second game (8pm AEST)
Saturday:
2pm NZ game 3 (12 AEST)
4pm NZ game 4 (2 AEST)
6pm NZ game 5 (4 AEST)
4pm AWST game 6 (6 AEST)
6pm AWST game 7 (8 AEST)
Sunday:
4pm NZ game 8 (2pm AEST)
2pm AWST game 9 (4pm AEST)
4pm AWST game 10 (6pm AEST/8pm NZ)
There, I’ve even taken away the dreaded Thursday night fixture that nobody likes.
As this is based on the potential of expansion to 20 teams, which would see there being 2 NZ teams then you have an NZ team on the Friday and the Sunday. Fixed… what else you got? There's no point in doing this. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
And in the NZ event you've got one game on Friday and one Saturday, good luck shifting tickets for one off games
Sunday could have a midday game and a 630 game same as SaturdayJust give two teams a bye for Magic Round and keep it at 8 games
Calm down mate, we are just swapping ideas about Magic Round on the internet. As this is based on the potential of expansion to 20 teams, which would see there being 2 NZ teams then you have an NZ team on the Friday and the Sunday. Fixed… what else you got?
The issue is that it COULD break having it in one location when there is a move to 20 teams. Yes, it works ok at the moment but that’s because they’re only playing 8 games instead of ten and not all teams play the round at the moment. It’s a hypothetical ffs.
Women’s Magic Round?NRL could have 2 magic round's per year
Main 1 Brisbane
Then 2nd magic round could go around to all city's on a yearly basis
Perth Optus stadium. Next year
Adelaide Oval
Homebush stadium
AMMI stadium
Every 4 year's all these 4 city's get a magic round
The amount of media hype. Attention. Tourism
