...or Warner.. with a piddling @24 on Indian tracks. Not much better in Sri Lanka. Khawaja has never played in India, averages @17 in Sri Lanka. I just know Harris' record would be similar. We have to look at blokes that can actually play spin if we are to have any hope over there.

Cant not pick them all, Warner will be there. They are all similarly shit at spin. At least Warner is a gun fielder

Exposes how crap our Shield is, and the development of players for spin

I wouldnt mind sending an Aust A team to India a month before they tour to climatise to the decks. Put a few of the guys that could/will be playing test cricket in the side eg Harris, Head, Green and Khawaja, also Sangha and Swepson etc.. but wont happen due to scheduling. If we are serious about winning over there we need to do something like this, as nothing happening on the homefront to help them improve

Hayden went there by himself few months before the famous 2001 india series to practice. Was a gun in tests. From memory wasnt great on spin before hand

I'd argue it's stronger with Head chiming in at the Gabba there

Warner, Smith and Labuschagne.. you can almost bank on one of them going large, then you get Travis Head coming down the order improving all the time it seems. If we get a decent opener to pair Warner, we're suddenly not that far off where we'd probably like to be in terms of batting.
Yeah travis head proved me wrong i wasn't a fan of his.

But also i would still like to see him produce more consistency and not just be a flash in a pan before calling him lifting him up to bankable.

I also reckon Smudge is quietly on the decline yes we havent played much cricket since the 2019 ashes. But in those 10 tests since all have been at home conditions he has only scored one hundred and 4 fifties and averaging just 38 way down on what he was producing for 4 seasons.

His white ball form has been average this year as well.

Smith is still our best batsman but i reckon Marnus is closing in and has produced more consistently since getting in the team.

Thats it doubt the best batsman is 60+ years. Write him off

I don’t think it’s a decline, as you mentioned it’s the lack of red ball & even ODI cricket. In 2020 he averaged 62 in ODI’s, this year has only been T20’s which he’s never been great in.

He is still the best we have got. I was more pointing out that maybe we might not get big run series that he was producing every series while he was captain and the ashes.

He set the bar so high it was coming down eventually.

He is still averaging 38 in this period pretty decent only behind Labuschagne and warner who feasted on average pakistan 2 summers ago with a unbeaten triple century.

Anyway I am locking him for a 100 at the SCG because i am going and the last 5 times i have watched him live he has actually scored a 100.

Both innings at Edgbaston in 2019, 2 ODIs last summer against India and his solitary Test 100 he got last summer in sydney. So maybe i am his lucky charm

Warner is in for a tough trot anyway next year with all the away test matches, could be 9 of them. Truth be told though, who else is going to come in? May as well just stick with Warner.

Harsh. Specially the WTC points. What are the umpires doing. They have an obligation to keep the game humming along. And surely if they think the skipper is dawdling deliberately it is their job to clamp down on them. Why not fine the umpires too as they dont appear to be fully doing their job.

I get it, but it feels a bit unnecessary when the match ends inside of 4 days. Punishment enough

Even though Burns is a Harris-like bunny, I think you have to give him another shot. His main competition is Sibley, right? Feels like shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic.

I think Stokes and Wood will be out and that'll be a bigger loss than Warner and Hazelwood for Australia. England just don't have the depth, even with Anderson and Broad. Maybe you keep Leach and Woakes for this test.

So-
Burns
Hameez
Malan
Root
Pope
Buttler
Woakes
Robinson
Broad
Leach
Anderson

Yuck. So much pressure on Root. Less runs than Brisbane.

Our batting looks even more fragile now Warner's out. Really need big games from Lasagna and Smiffy here, and hopefully Head takes some confidence from his great knock in Brisbane.

What's his average? near on 60? way too early to write him off.

If Warner is out they will not pick 2 new openers cuz that's how they think, irrespective of Harris's form

Baring injury, Australia rarely makes changes to a losing side let alone a winning one.
You are never going to have a team where every individual player is in form all of the time and changing a team every test isn't going to help performance.

That said the selectors need to recognise that Starc and Lyon are on the wane and Harris is not test standard.
