If the selectors wanted a veteran born in the 1970s back in the side, Mike Hussey and Brad Hogg would've been far more worthy candidates over Brad Hodge. They both bring far more to Australia's 2014 T20WC aspirations.

Hoggy has still got the form, fitness and variation to trouble batsmen at 43. I'd prefer him as our spinner even in the ODI side over Xavier Doherty.

And regarding Hussey, still filthy about the way he was shafted from the ODI series last summer. One of the worst decisions Australian selectors have ever made.

Regarding Hodge, although it is partially true that he was one of the unlucky Shield players during our golden era of 1994-2004 who couldn't crack the national side despite scoring thousands of runs, those dismissals in a video someone posted during the MCG and SCG tests after scoring that double century on one of the flattest WACA pitches I ever remember seeing is a more fitting reason why he didn't play more than 6 tests during his career.
