So Ferguson is 32, not as old as I thought - but seriously S Marsh, Voges and Ferguson - 3 middle aged journeyman, the Australian system not producing much atm?

Add to that Khawaja is coming up 30... Warner is 30... wow

Ferguson is hardly a journeyman IMO....Was a permanent and successful fixture in the ODI squad and pushing strongly for Test selection before a horrible run of bad knee injuries essentially stopped his career dead. Could have been picked a couple of years ago tbh. Hopefully he gets a run, he definitely understands how to bat in the middle order in a 4 or 5 day game

I've been hoping they'd give Fergo a go for a few years, he was good when he was in the ODI team

Is this stunting younger players growth though.

As good as Rogers, and he was good, I feel like his selection is part of the reason we are in this position now.

If form warrants selection I don't care if you're 16, 21, 30 or 35.

However, the Australian selectors have their core little contingent and pick from that. Surely it's time to experiment? And stop all this resting.

I largely agree, but don't we have to recognise that it means flat spots later on, like they one we are in now, when guys who can only play 4 or 5 season tops will be moved on

I suppose however the real issue is that there isn't any genuine depth there at the moment, so its not like a gun kid is being held back anyway

And there lies the problem.

No one knocking on the door really. Finch and Maxwell would be mainstays if they could hit a red ball.

Not that I'm a Maxwell fan at all, but didn't he average 52 or something last Shield season?
