What did the score end up?

about 4-305

I reckon punter thought the openers made it look easy and he was trying to pile the runs on a bit too quick, just makes Hughe's effort so much better.

Gee hasn't Morkell gone downhill.

Congrats to Hughes on his maiden ton, lots more to come, I hope he gets added to the ODI squad as he scores pretty quick

Very good position, just need to go on and make 450+ and bat at least until tea. No need to decalre, a draw is as good as a win and our quicks need all the rest they can get.

Good Day.

Important first session tommorow. If they can keep us to under 400, I think the game is a bit evenly poised with so much time left and what weve seen in the past.

If we can get to 450 or even 500 (will be hard to get there), we can pretty much take us losing out of the question, which means we cant lose the series and really go for broke.

North and Hussey have to get 100 between them in the morning. Get Haddin and Johnson out there after that to have a slog. We can get 450, quickly too. Lets go for the throat.

How's a draw as good as a win?!

they hold the trophy , to win it back we need to win the series.

Agree, but in terms of the number one ranking, if we dont lose the series we dont lose that.

Still, winning back the trophy and winning the series would demonstrate we deserve to hold the ranking.

Where's all the doomsayers gone now?

Morkel is the difference between them being ordinary and top class.

The difference between his best form and what he served up yesterday is enormous. I thought he was outstanding at times in the first test for no luck.

With his height bounce and pace he could be Ambrose like.

Unfortunately he is more like Harmy at the moment.

Good to see Highes stick it up the SAFA commenators. Does anyone think Darrel Callinan may actually be emil1989?

I'd still be wanting him to play a lot more domestic 50 over cricket before putting him up. He scores faster in tests than domestic one dayers at this stage. Gets tied up on leg stump badly so needs to get used to the different format. I'm sure he can do it in a season or two but needs at least 1000-2000 more runs under his belt I reckon.

Great knock last night though. More positive than aggressive but sets a far better tone at the top than Hayden did last 6 months.

Agree. Him at top form would have had at least 2 centuries in these 4 test matches, at least 1 in the one dayers, and it could have been the diffrence in the series results.

His catching has been well down too.

I think he is hitting the ball just about as well as ever - but has definitely thrown his wicket away at times in the last 6-12 months that simply wouldn't have happened in the 3 years previously.

Just a result of probably a few more distractions with retirements, some dramas, pressure of results etc. I reckon.

Australia already hold a 1-0 series lead, they still need to win a match to draw the series

But it doesnt mean dont play to win, but they can bat a bit longer than they might if they desperately had to win and it is a good point about letting the bowlers rest as long as possible

So far been good bowling by Steyn and Morkel. A bit more aggressive field settings could have had Hussey.

Morkel gets hussey bowled for 50,
an ugly innings, far from being back in form, but did a decent enough job hanging around
