I remember Javed Miandad once asking Ewen Chatfield to come to Pakistan to be his net bowler, because he was so consistent in his line and length. If I was a batsman today, I'd be asking the curator if he can take this pitch with him to become his backyard net. This surface is super easy paced, slow enough that nothing carries to the slips, and even in bounce. Smith's edged enough to be out 5 times today but this is such a slow pitch its going off the edge square and down to the boundary with ease.

If I was Alviro Peterson I'd begin drinking, and heavily. To throw away a test innings on that recklessly is mind boggling stuff. The true test in this test is how many double hundreds South Africa will put us on this deck. If you ever want to see a "we're ahead in thre test series, so I'm going to roll the snot out of the deck to ensure nothing happens for 5 days" type pitch, this is it.

one of my favourite Jacques related quotes is "imagine breaking a 259 run partnership and seeing Jacques Kallis come out to bat"

I din't get a good look at him, but I thought he was wearing a red shirt and black pants (which match referees are known to wear)

did I just hear someone say "I don't think you're allowed to throw dogs"? Beautiful beautiful commentary

I don't think I'll survive the tea break. It's hot and I'm tired. The India England game may be able to keep me going though

The game was ambling in that last hour before tea..

Old mate the hairdresser was the most interesting part of the session..

Williamson needs to give himself 100 uppercuts for spilling Amla..

de Villiers has been looking better than Amla. AN is in good touch at the moment, I expect him to really fire after, I love his style of batting, if I can stay up longer, I will just to watch him
