listening to this program now for the very first time.
i didn't realise the type of mongs who call up to talkbalk on this show actually existed. absolute dribblers the lot of them.
There's some serious headcases. There was one last week called John - called up and wouldn't let John Laws get a word in edgewise, and then accused Laws of trying to speak over the top of him. Meanwhile this John character says he's a first time caller, and he's nervous, and then he launches straight at Laws hoping that he dies soon and says Laws is a liberal goon who's probably on their payroll. I thought it was quite funny in a sense, the biggest liberal goon station is 2GB by the length of the straight. Singo has got his boys to march the right wing vendetta to the enth degree. Laws if anything has been quite open to Bill Shorten and the Labour Party and been quite critical of Malcolm Turnbull's lack of initiative. Not really trying to be political here, but that caller had to be on the goon juice to the max.
That said, I listen purely because I think the way Laws deals with most of them is quite brilliant. And unlike the rest of the 2SM stable, Laws seems educated and has an opinion - right or wrong. The likes of Brent Bultitude sit there day in day out and merely go "well, others might disagree, but I agree with what you are saying", irrespective of what is being put forward by the caller.
With the Ray Price one, its part of a segment called Reeling in the Years. I find most of the interviews interesting because I think the history of league is really cool. But, I must say, what it inevitably turns into is a good interview, then Gavin Robertson pondering and giving the impression he is off with the fairies, followed by an hour of receiving calls lauding the 2SM crew for the interview.
The other night I heard Adrian come on. Papworth absolutely gave it to him. Adrian rang in and said how he really enjoyed the Ray Price interview, and how he would see how Ray Price would be a great leader. Before you know it, Papworth rips into him accusing him of having an opinion not based in fact and how could he possibly say Price was a better leader than any other leader. It wasn't even what Adrian said, but it seems they hate Adrian to the point that they just don't listen. It was embarrasing from Papworth to the max.
