1 Kerney - Smart game plan today. Went wide early to kept the edge defenders outside, then up the middle with Luke and Mannering to dominant field position. Put us in the game which we maintained with Forans smarts. Times are a changing.

Foran
Mannering
Gavet

best thing about today was for the first time this year it legit looked like a good performance which could be improved with a little more polish, rather than an average one saved by individuals or rubbish opposition.

Gavet
Foran
RTS

Lots of potential points this week, hard to pick.
Still a few handling errors, forward passes and penalties to stamp out of the game to compete in the comings weeks.

3. Foran
2. Johnson
1. RTS
HM Luke

Our spine finally looks set with Foran back.

Gavet, Mannering also outstanding, and for whatever it is, Ken to his credit is hanging in there for the moment

3 Gavet. No hand brake or sideways shuffle into the defensive line with this chap. Creates good momentum through the ruck.
2. Mannering. His work rate was exceptional. He and Hoff were running a lot of good support lines too.
1. RTS. Hard working and THAT tackle on Randrandra was phenomenal and game defining.

I could easily have given points to Foz, Luke, Fus, even Kenny frankly. I felt it was a really good team performance

Just watching Gavet he looks so hungry when he plays. Its like he's playing with the mindset that he knows he's buggered up a few shots at the big time in a past and damned if he's gonna waste his last shot at it. Its great to see, he give 110%.

Whisper it quietly, but might a) Gavet be developing into a pack leader, and b) Maumalo getting a bit better as an actual winger?
But Maumalo gets instantly moved aside when Manu's ready, no?

Maumalo is starting to do the wingers basics right, which is an improvement. However he's still only scored tries in position where any first grade standard plodder would be expected to- i.e. been standing in the right position, caught. a regulation pass and had a clear run to the line. I'll be convinced he can hold Manu out ones he barrels through three defenders to score, successfully contests attacking bombs (hell, contesting them at all would be an improvement), or tiptoes along the sideline and nails a one-handed put down with half his body over the sideline. That's when he stops being an adequate placeholder and becomes a real first choice winger.

i have yet to be convinced ken is going to end up anywhere but in the forwards much like a tony iro or tony williams type player. To me he doesnt show winger attributes at all and is awkward to watch. Even the try he got on the weekend was nearly butchered. He almost overran the pass and his put down was very dodgy. I am glad they didnt review it. I would much prefer he had 2 hands on it and diving on the ground. I would love Ken to prove me wrong. No issues with his work rate coming out of our own half, but thats where it ends for me.

And Manu does all these things?

I dont think Manu does any of those things apart from the barrelling but you cant deny his strikerate. At a certain point in his career Manu decided to contest the high ball differently, using the tap back rather than catch, and has had a bit of success with that.

He's done all of those things at points in his career, often quite consistently (I'm counting tap backs as contesting, btw). Ken is yet to do any of them, even once.

I though Ken went up another notch against the Eels, started to see some movement that wasn't just battering ram. Might be kataesque and come on in leaps and bounds with a bit more confidence.

For an accident waiting to happen, he is doing bloody well atm.

My wife says I gone from last year yelling "FFS Wright" to "Run hard Ken". She said the team and my language have both improved this season.

At lest you know Ken has the ability to do some damage. Wright had a reasonable footy brain but no actual talent

Don't mind Ken's work this year, other than the butchering he made v the Dogs.

I'm fairly certain Rapana and BJ are going to give him and Kata hell this weekend, however. And there'll be no shame in that, best centre/wing combo in the comp. May be a nice learning experience for both our guys.
