RE Roache, I think Kearney just got the timing wrong - likely panicked with the game turning hard and felt the need to change something. I think there is value in having him on the bench - provides cover across a range of positions, but more than that can play a late impact DH role like Nikorima at Brisbane. Problem is, Kearney put him on waaay too early and thus got no impact out of the substitution.

Just noticed that Lolohea played at 5 for the reserve grade side - so assumedly on the left. Could this be a sign that Kearney is happy with the Ayshford/Fusitua right side but isnt convinced about Ken on the left?

The problem is I haven't seen anything convincing from Roache at first grade yet to really justify this. Plus Luke should be an 80 minute player. If anyone is worth having in bench cover is Tevaga, who has really looked the goods and can also slot into the back row.

Surely Kearney couldn't replace Ken with Lolohea!
Talk about going backwards.
Rather have Charnze or Allwood.

I see where you're coming from - but I'm not sure (looking at him as a hooker) Tevaga has done much more in first grade - and of the two, Roache looks the better DH option when they play NSW cup. As for the back row cover, I don't think it's quite as important as covering the spine/backline, since we have the minutes in the other guys there to cover for an injury or two in the forwards... 3 starters who can play 80 if needed, plus Gavet/Lillyman - and Matulino when he gets back - have all shown they can play significant minutes to good effect at this level, Lisone is a guy I suspect is better as a longer minutes player than an impact guy, and Sao has been getting barely any minutes, plenty of room for more there.

Certainly trying to use that last guy as an impact option (which I'm guessing is what Kearney is going for), Roache is much more suited to that than Tevaga, who is a workhorse but not particularly dynamic... Roache likes to run, and he's good at it. Also I feel Luke is maybe not at his best when playing the full 80 - he certainly has that ability if required, but his workrate in defence isn't exactly great for his position, he averages more like 70 minutes/game over a season anyway and has I think looked better for the Kiwis when in rotation with TL.

3 Hoffman. Aside from some outstanding runs, I was about 10m from him when he gave Ken Maumalo the most deserved and energetic spray of all time when BJ scored. There's no doubt this bloke is still passionate as.
2 RTS. One millimetre and I think he gives us a lead that forces Canberra out of their grinding approach. There was also a take off his boot laces that was remarkable.
1. Fusitua. I thought he created a lot of energy carting the ball forward.

I'd like to give Aysh an honourable mention. Great defence including a brilliant tackle from behind on BJ.

Id rather give Charnze a go but TBH right now I wouldn't necessarily call a Tui/Ken swap going backwards - more like sideways :/

One other thing on Roger is his positioning on field is outstanding. His anticipation on kicks is world class. He came up with two bell ringer try saving tackles. Just his 1%ers watching him live were full of class. I felt for him on attack, Shaun on a few occasions spread it wide to him but had done absolutely nothing to engage the line so it was even numbers with the sideline fast approaching. Shaun needs to dig into the line a little more.

Well I watched the first half at Sydney airport and then had to board my flight back to Thailand. Was super amped as that was a great first half although we missed out on getting the lead we should have. After arriving Bangkok, even though dog tired and 2am watched the second half and as soon as those early tackle errors creeped back into our game in the first five minutes of the resumption I knew we were toast.

Real shame because the first half showed our potential and the second half the unfortunate standard.

Why did that happen? Who flicked the munta switch.

Lowlights >
-Kata running backwards and letting Leilua get over the try line without actually trying to tackle him. Laughably bad.
-Maumolo's feeble tackle attempt on Leilua and bomb drop and shithouse play of the ball.
- Roache penalty with first tackle (as bad as the other week when he came on and shot out of the defensive line tackling thin air leading to a try). As an impact player, he is certainly one, just not very positive at the moment.
-Second half refereeing was less than average and that strip not called was terrible.

Worst part about lost but stripped call was the "pocket" ref called it strip and main ref over ruled.
Also Maumalo play the ball call both need to be questioned through appropriate channels.

Captains challenge would of been helpful!

1. RTS, Foran and SJ all got taken out of the game with the dumb knock ons and penalties + Luke being subbed for a pretty hopeless rookie. Where the hell is Tevaga? The only time we ever look like a competent nrl side is with the full spine on the park.

2. Ken should have taken that ball no sweat as any first grade back should, entirely his fault.

Dont remember the Hoff moment.

I'm 50/50 on the Croker thing, yes he should have got it but he created that chance from absolutely nothing anyway, canceled itself out in a way.
Yeah a bit hard on him, he did some brilliant things, that others can't/don't do, guess I hold him to a high standard. :)

I'm sure it was Erin Clark you refer to shooting out of the line. It was against Melbourne. Clark is barely NYC competent.
