3-2-1 v Sharks

Took a pencil to the team list, crossed off those who only came for the money and the above are what's left.

Is it a coincidence that the three above are all Australians? What homegrown player is really putting in right now? (Manu's not there but he always seems to give it a real go).

And if there's any traction to this, then what does that say about all that talk a while back about having an all-Kiwi team?

Mannering and Mateo? Does either one care?

Why do we still care? I woke up this morning and wished I didn't. Feel sorry for the guys on this forum, who kept the flame burning over the summer in anticipation of this season only to see what's happening (again).

I don't know why people feel sorry for Lowrie and Nielsen, they got their premiership and are now probably getting twice the money they would have got for staying at the Storm and in Lowries case a two year deal compared to probably just a one year deal for no coin. Best of both worlds for them, premiership winners and now getting their money.

I think they would want to play for a side that continues the high standards they expected to be part of at the Storm. One with drive and determination to win, as 'outsiders' in a still Sydney-based competition.

They've both played in Storm sides that have been upset by fired-up and passionate Warriors sides so they would be surprised at the jellyfish outfit they're currently playing with.

I look at guys like Nielsen and Lowrie - the way the carry themselves on and off the field - and it seems highly unlikely that it's all about the money for them.

What are you saying? That nobody plays footy except for the money?

Hey mate, its professional yes. But nobody should be playing just for the money. The difference between a professional and someone who just has a job is that as a professional, you don't just turn up. You do what you have to do and you do it to the best of your ability.

Thats why professionals get paid salaries. If the job take 65 hours a week, you have to do 65 hours a week. You don't get paid overtime and you just have to do it.

You become a professional because you have the ability to do the job and you have an interest and a passion for it.

A true professional would get no satisfaction in an underperforming environment. It would be soul destroying.

I agree with Fast Eddie. I think Lowrie and Nielsen would rather be winning, but laughing all the way to the bank.

That is just ramblings that have nothing to really do with what I said. I'm sure they are frustrated going from winning to losing, but someone like Lowrie is setting his family up for the future, and has a premiership. I doubt he is regretting leaving the Storm.

P.S And it seems that you haven't followed professional sport for the last 20 years at least.

No coincidence at all, our boys generally aren't putting in at all and that includes Mannering. Can't understand the lack of motivation, neither Bluey nor Elliott seems to be able to get these guys to care.

Martel is falling into that category too (if we are paying him well). He cared last here, he sure as hell can't be bothered now.

I can't imagine what kind of huge event could transpire that would be enough to turn this attitude an confidence thing around. We need a superstar mid-season signing or something of that nature to spark this team or it's wooden spoon for sure.

They say a fish rots from its head down and perhaps this needs to be looked more into. If there is still another million in the cap and its unspent then the next reason is why aren't players coming to Auckland? Is it management, the coach or players around them?

We have managed Wiki and Price not so long ago, have had some really good stars and solid players in the past but now it seems no one as a 5 star player will look at moving to NZ, why?

The fact that it's the local boys for the most part letting the side down suggests to me that the problem is cultural in some respect. I don't know enough about the internal workings of the Warriors to say exactly what aspect of the club's culture is to blame but I would be willing to hazard a guess that it reflects conditions that are present in society to some extent.

It's long been said that the Warriors lack a bit of "mongrel", and the mongrel they need is often injected by Australian players (Campion being the best and most oft referenced example). League in general is a "working-class" game and embodies core working-class values of hard work, mateship, grittiness and resilience; values that are commonly associated with Australians and - I would like to think - New Zealanders too. There's nowhere to hide on a league field as they say. But it's that selfless commitment to a cause that we've always seemed to lack to the same degree as the top Australian teams. When the going is good we're fantastic but when our backs are against the wall we often capitulate. Why? Are our Kiwi players more susceptible to self-doubt and less inclined to dig-in when times are tough than our cousins across the Tasman?

Is Neilsen injured as he appeared to go of limping late in the second half and didn't appear to come back on, Henry appeared to move to centre, wasn't mentioned in commentary.

There's a lot of fact in that.

Exactly. I noticed in the Sharks game, their tackle technique and wrestle was appalling. Guys were standing to offload, there were jersey grabs, there was no one looking to pin his opponent in the ribcage and get him on his back. There's not enough dominance in the D. I think a lot of their issues stem from this in that they never really get parity in the ruck. The backs are playing off the backfoot, offloads occur in the middle sucking the edges in, and it then becomes carte blanche.

our melbourne boys are doing pretty well for themselve. I doubt these two ever rated a mention in the +3, +2, +1 when at the storm.....

club in crisis.
