And thank christ Bird is back next week.

While I'm a bit concerned about this extraordinary biblical show of enthusiasm for Greg Bird's return, you Surely make a point, Surely

With Bird back at 5/8, surely the handling errors of our outside backs will be reduced to zero, surely. This is surely as they surely wont be passed the ball, ever. Surely!!

Surely...It's not about having a team of $50K players.

It's about having an effective mix of so called 'elite' players of proven ability, a bunch of tried and true 1st grade-standard blokes on mid range money and some young bucks who have got potential and energy, but not necessarily the experience.

Clearly, a team full of young blokes will lack leadership and will crack in pressure games. Sure, exciting to watch, but ultimately unreliable.

A team full of solid grade players will turn up most weeks, but will lack that 'killer' attack or presence of mind to put away the top sides in big games.

A team full of internationals and elite players is unobtainable. Unless you're the Roosters. And even then, a 'Team of Champions' will almost always fall to a 'Champion Team'.

This is what i am trying to ascertain, does BTR want a side with no Kimmorely or Vagana, because in his opinion they are overpaid.

He also states that McGoldrick is playing better than Vagana, which I find comming from a stats man quite strange. The stats indicate McGoldricks defence is worse than Vagana's, he also scores less trys, makes less metres. Add to that he is nowhere near as heavily marked as Vagana.

As fot SS if i wanted a comment from you i would ask BTR, I'd get exactly the same answer :)

Well Surely, I reckon that we NEED a Vagana-type player, sure.

BUT, I think the point reefy is making is that, so far, he has not really played any better than McGoldrick or some of our other lowly-paid blokes.

To justify his huge money, he needs to turn up every week and play champagne footy more often than not.

Like Noddy does.

Like Stevo does.

Clearly, the odds are higher for him. We tolerate poor games from some of the other blokes, because they are not regarded as 'elite' or even 'regular 1st graders'.

He needs to put it, simple as that. I want him there, absolutely, but I want Nige the International, not Nige the Nobody.

There is no question really, surely.
the fact is you are quite happy to havea team full of overpaid players who produce nothing. (Kimmorley is excluded from this argument because I do think he performs, although I am critical of some of his intricacies)
vagana is not performing! Fullstop. His form is less than that of a Rookie & he is not any more or less marked than Goldy.

Do you know hat Vaganas nick name is? if you do you will know how he got it.
How many times has he attempted that this year? None!
How many kicks has he chased? None
How many times has he scored more than once in a match? None.

& if you want the most telling stat, well go back to Cantebury last week where his 9 missed tackles cost us the game. I do beleive that was a record for the most missed tackles in one match.
we are also out of the 8 now, wouldnt those 2 points be handy.

The idea of paying someone 1/3 of a million dollars per year is to ensure that player helps the team across the hurdle to win matches by doing everything that he currently isn't.

you think he will get better, well we all better hope so, because there is not really any other direction for him to go in.

Sorry, I was looking at my electricity bill when i wrote that.

However, BT, I am also unhappy with Goldies kick chase, even if he was playing for $6k
Our poor kick chase game is making our inconsistent long kicking game look even poorer.
(Was that grammatically correct?)

Agree with you on the kick chase stuff BTR but in conversation have heard that part of the problem is that at times no-one is quite sure who is kicking and where the kick is intended so a lot of the chase ir reactionary rather than planned.

That's not a surprise. Come back Noddy . . . . fast!!

Good points BeenThere..

I'm not so critical of the level of Vagana's attack at this point. Even with Kimmorley back, the team tends to look to its 11 and 12 on the fringes to get over the line. I'd reiterate that I'd like to see some second man balls with the backrowers to give the centres some more room outside, and not just in the opposition 20m's.

I have been disappointed with Vagana defensively, though. And I'm not so much concerned about his individual defense, more that around him. Perhaps I put too much expectation on him, but I was hoping that he would tighten up the 5/8 and wing around him with his talk. I was always impressed with Vagana defensively at Canterbury, he always seemed to have good body position, particularly on line d.

But Surely.. if you honestly did a cost-benefit analysis on McGoldrick vs Vagana, its really quite difficult to argue with BTR. Having said that, there's no other choice. He needs to be there, and he should be there. I just hope he sees more ball with BK back and a more stable 5/8th for him to work with.

Oh thats obvious! (re:BT)

It pizzes me no off that JK has not got the kick priority yet.

If Kimmorley was there, its a done deal.

so why not JK?

His kick is probably 20m longer than BK's or Sullys so give him the fuggin ball!

Rapes needs to get some help for "specials teams" plays if he wants the Sharks to truly function effectively without BK.
