Our bowlers have been great this series. They have really given us every chance, all it would have taken is a couple of decent scores from the batsmen in the first couple of tests and we'd still be right in it.
Does give plenty of hope for the summer series if the batsmen can get it together.
100% agree with you, especially in the 1st test. Like the 1st test in the 2009 Ashes series at Cardiff, that near miss in the 1st test at Trent Bridge may turn out to be enough for England to retain the Ashes.
Much to the chagrin of others, I still stand by my original comments I mentioned in another thread: if we sort out our batting line-up after this series is over, we are a real chance of winning the Ashes this summer at home. Australia are definitely not going to be the push-over they were 3 years ago when we lost three tests by an innings.
Looks like Monday could be a washout. Probably our only hope is to get the follow on and try to bowl them out tonight.
This. England will be desperate to get these next 34 runs. With the cloudy weather setting in, the ball will definitely move around in the air a lot more. I can see our fast bowlers being lethal if we get conditions that the likes of James Anderson have thrived on in England.
It seemed too good to be true. After perfect weather in the first two tests, it looks like the the typical English weather is going to set in at the worst possible time. It'd be heartbreakin if we fall agonisingly short in this test (a la Cardiff 2009 style) because of the weather
Doubt we will enforce the follow on if we get it, which is unlikely
Clarke will set them an achievable total , though doubt England will really go for a win
We've got absolutely no choice. If we don't enforce the follow on if we get the opportunity, we are simply not going to have enough time to score a quick-fire 100-150 or so in the 2nd innings (which will chew up at least a session, minimum) and then bowl England out. We are going to need as many overs as possible to bowl them out.
It's now or never. England avoid the follow-on and they are almost certainly guaranteed a draw which will be enough to retain the Ashes.
