Haha sportsbet had a megabet of $10 for one of the Marsh boys to score a century. Heads need to be read if anyone jumped on that

Smith is pretty bright he needs to not bat like a spanner against spin bowling. He obviously has tightened up a lot against swing based on today but holy moly he is way too agressive against spinners he doesnt rate.

A lot of them were chasing runs. He also was literally the only australian who looked like he could handle swing bowling. That was a bad dismissal mind but chasing runs who gives a f**k.

Solid session from NZ. Smith undid some pretty good work with that horrid dismissal. Need better from him. Darsh run out was hilarious. Glad Nev has played well

Its funny because thats one of the best innings smith has played but because he is so arrogant against bad spinners he chucked it away. The dismissal reminds me of how he chucked his innings away at cardiff after getting a start because he had to charge ali

Voges batting sums up everything that is wrong with Australian cricket atm.

I know I go on about the pitches but geez, this is exactly how Voges and Marsh kept getting out in England.

He gets a wide one swinging away and he tries to drive on the up on green pitch like this. I really dont blame the batsman as he has spent something like 12 years batting on the WACA to get into the Aussie team and that shot is normally 4 through covers but on a bitch like this he still tries the same shot, you'd think he would have learned in England that not every pitch is the WACA.

Our first class batsmen play on these highways for years and when they get into international cricket they have no idea on how to bat on a pitch thats not a highway.

We have done this to ourselves and we have no one else to blame.

end rant
The scary thing is despite all the advantages batters get at shield level, flat decks and giant bats and ropes bringing in the boundaries, still hardly anyone averages over 40. Big Show is this best this season and he has about 43.

Nobody has the spine to consistently score big.

Although according to this article ground curators are under instruction to flatten them out to mimic test pitches

To further mimic the experience of Test cricket, the other significant change to the Shield season has been in relation to the preparation of the pitches. In recent years, too often were the two opposing captains greeted by a ‘green seamer’ when they arrived in the middle half an hour before play began for what would become the most pivotal moment in the game – the toss. On a green wicket, successful captains elected to bowl first and exploit the bowler-friendly conditions to the point where CA started investigating the host state if 14 or more wickets were lost on an opening day’s play.

Benefit of the doubt to the batsman, hotspot isn't clear - no corroborating evidence
