3rd Test: Australia v Sri Lanka at Sydney Jan 3 - 7, 2013

Steve Waugh didn't score his first century until his 27th test, four years after his debut. He scored ten fifties before he managed to get into triple figures.

I know many people who did not think Steve Waugh was suited to the longer form of the game. Amazing what experience can do huh?

Warner and Hughes will be fine with time.

Fancy comparing Steve Waugh with Phil Hughes.

You merkins should be ashamed of yourselves.

At the same point in their careers Hughes > Waugh (in terms of batting)

You can't really compare the two until Hughes has quite a few more years of experience,

These two men won't be throwing it away in the 80s I can assure you of that. If they can get there that is...

Great knocks from Warner and Hughes but they both let centuries go begging, not for the first time this summer.

Look if they are to THROW hundreds away, you would rather it be against SL when they can learn from it and not do it against England!

I don't think anyone of same mind believes they will be dropped.

Where to the SL attack rank though I suspect Quiney would have got runs against these guys.

Some might say Waugh's bowling was the only thing that kept him in the test side until the Ashes campaign of 1989. That .... and his potential. After twenty tests his batting average was only 26.

Imagine the criticism Waugh would have got from many posters on here with an batting average less than 30.
