one benefit of Bracken is that he will move it away from Smith and Duminy, where as Hilfy will move it into them which makes him a lot easier to play

those two guys made a lot of runs between them

Just give him a go - and for a whole series.

I say give Hilfenhaus the first shot for an entire series as he's only 25 and has preformed extremely in the sheild this year. If he fails then well you have all the option of trying Bracken for the swing position.

He'll be 50 by the time they try him

some of the most vocal critics of punters captaincy were ex Australian captains... are you saying they dont know what its like being out there calling the shots?
The game has changed since they played also it's always the same people complaining about the game and players Neil Harvey has lost all his integrity because he continually insults the game and it's players he's like many a bitter motherf**ker who can't get over himself

No he isn't. Bracken should be there. Noffke is an option. Hilfy. And Bollinger was on debut.

And f**k yes, he does have a long way to go.

If this is the best we're going to get from Johnson then he certainly isn't going to become the great bowler that Lillee predicted.

You must be smoking crack

Thanks for confirming to all that you have NFI. Ponting tried everything and eventually came up the winner. Not one word of thanks for a perfectly timed declaration. His bowling choices were spot on as it was this time last year when he went for clarke to win the test vs India.
FFS if you look back i said it was a very good declaration, but just because we won doesn't mean it was due to great captaincy. How long have you been watching cricket??? Don't tell me another 2005 bandwagoner

Typical of this place. A magnificent test victory, I come in here expecting to read about how well Australia played. Imagine my surprise to see that not only were people not celebrating a marvellous victory, they were in fact saying basically every player in the team (bar NSWelshmen, because clearly they're beyond reproach - except Hauritz) are crap and should be dropped. Just look at some of the sentiments expressed here:

Hayden should retire (perhaps)
Hayden is selfish (what rubbish)
Ponting is a crap captain (this victory makes him the second most successful captain of all time, behind only Clive Lloyd, but hey let's ignore that because you merkins would all make better captains right?)
McDonald is crap and should never be picked again (he certainly wasn't an instant great, but he didn't discredit himself either and looked very dangerous at times)
Johnson is a sh*t bowler (he took roughly 50% of Australia's wickets this series, but hey let's ignore that because he's not a NSWelshman. Someone even suggested Bollinger was Australia's best bowler this series. Talk about deluded)
Siddle is sh*t and should never be picked (A brilliant spell in Melbourne, and then again in Sydney where he took 4 wickets in 4 overs. But he's absolutely rubbish and all those people like Glenn McGrath calling him a test bowler for years to come know nothing compared to the almighty knowledge of the idiots in here)
Hauritz is crap (I agree with this one)

I honestly have no idea why some of you, with hineyrulz and Bazal the chief ringleaders, bother supporting Australia when you hate pretty much every player in the team. We lost a series against South Africa 2-1, where the two matches we lost we were in winnable positions. We were not that far off the pace, and when you consider that a few players were under par, I think we proved that we are still the best nation in the world.

Are you sure some of you aren't English fans? Because the utter contempt shown for the Australian team, coupled with the rejoicing when they fail, makes me wonder.

Skeepe you are a cheerleader, you should be in the box with Healy and Nicholarse.

Siddle i think has improved remarkably and should have a long career in the baggy green. As for Johnson since his 8 for 61 i think he has been ordinary, maybe he is a little tired but all the wraps he is getting is way over the top. Yes we won but we still lost the series. The first time that happened in 16 years, it was a win but a hollow one.

And for the record Skeepe Ponting is only equal with Lloyd for all time wins, but they are both 5 behind S Waugh.

Lol....not quite up to your usual psychotic standards skeepey....you feeling ok?

You and several others on here seem perfectly happy to shove your heads as deep in the sand as you can physically get them and pretend everything is wonderful because we won a dead rubber. A dead rubber that we nearly threw away by letting the tail bat for a full session. A dead rubber in a series that we lost due to poor selections, some poor captaincy and some poor to below average performances from key batsmen and bowlers. These same few posters seem to think commenting negatively on some aspects of these poor performances constitutes some kind of crime against patriotism and that rabidly defending all and sundry makes them better than those who are simply pointing out the worrying signs of unhappier times to come. Essentially, these posters refuse to acknowledge that there are problems that need fixing, or that criticism is not necessarily a sign of personal dislike or even a low opinion of a player. These posters, for whatever reason, seem to believe that if you point out a flaw with a players game, you hate Australia and that player and want them to fail. What I mean to say, is these posters are poor, deluded halfwits who see the world in black and white and can't get their head around simple concepts like constructive criticism.

Now, a few questions regarding your post. Firstly, I seem to recall you agreeing a week or so back that Ponting made some crucial captaincy errors after the last Test when your thread containing some mouth-frothing diatribe about merkins and his brilliance was bumped. Are you changing that view again, skeepey? You seem to be back to the mindless "Ponting is excellent you merkins" rant again. That's pretty fairweather of you, don't you think?

Secondly, please inform me of where I have rejoiced in an Australians failure? Obviously you have evidence of this, since you named me specifically...don't you?

Thirdly, can you please explain why, in your opinion, we should not be allowed to point out the flaws in players games simply because they play for the country we support? And why that criticism, even when coupled with "Player X is a good player, but....", is an automatic indication of showing "nothing but contempt" and a deep, personal hatred for that player?

I eagerly await your response

Baz you can't have an opinion on here mate, unless you think Ponting is the greatest captain of all time. Johnson is the next Wasim Akram, and the selectors and coach are doing a wonderful job  And if you do you have NFI :?

im kinda sick of this whinging. hayden should be gone. fair enough.

ponting is a good captain. i think since india had a cry last year he has lost a bit of his desire to win at all costs... but i think he is getting that back, cause it what made him great as a skipper.

siddle has done more then enough to book a seat on the plane to South Africa. Johnson will never get a reprieve on this forum, so im not going to bother. mcdonald had a fair effort with the ball, but in reality isnt ready for this level of cricket. i think hauritz could very well be a replacement for hogg as our one day bowler, but when there isnt that pressure to hit boundaries and attack him, he is not near dangerous enough, so he's out of tests for mine.

and the most important thing is, even though we lost, this has been on of the most entertaining series of cricket i've seen.... even if is is made more bitter but the loss.

Hmm... apparently I can't admire Ricky Ponting as a captain whilst pointing out that I believe he has made some mistakes... what was that about seeing things in black and white Bazal?

I can understand when people say they think a bad decision has been made. What I take issue with is when people say they think their grandmother would make a better captain. Clearly some people have been spoiled by our success for far too long and can't handle it when we hit a trough (and a shallow one at that).

Skeepe, it's a shame that when someone says "Johnson has a long, long way to go and was pretty poor in the last two Tests" you take that to read "Johnson is crap."

You seem to want to believe that we hate half the team, which is not at all true. You've read what was never written.

I think we will go close to wining the test series in SA

If Clark can be 100% fit for SA. Im happy for Siddle and Johnson to be part of the pace attack. With Bollinger/ Hillfy as the backup bowlers on tour

Our drawback is a good quality spinner. Krejza would have tore the SA'a a new asshole had he played in this test match, I have no doubt about that. The sooner he is back in the side the better, especially if we persiost with someone like McDonald, who can bowl 15-20 tight overs in a day if need be

If Hayden is going to tour SA, I wish he had played in the one dayers to try and get some momentum going.

Other than that, I think the pressure is all on SA, Lets see how they handle it now they are expecting to win
