Love the way Tremlett bowls, McGrath like although not the same level of control. Finn should take notice and use his height if he wants to progress further

Sun is shining in Southampton right now, such a shame to waste it, there is more rain predicted for this day and the others. Lost so much play already, why aren't they giving us extra time in the mornings?

I think this is the first piece of morning this test has seen. And for some unknowable reason, Strauss put Broad on. Tremlett is on too, but England need to hurry up and take this last wicket.

And Broad took the last wicket. Strauss probably put him on to allow him to take the last wicket to give him a confidence boost.

Right out fo the Ricky Ponting captaincy text book manual (either wicketless siddle or notch getting the leftovers)

Swann reckons they are so ugly to watch he wouldn't pay to watch them bat. Cook and Trott that is. I love watching them and you can learn a lot from them.

I just double checked the 2011 totals for Strauss and Pietersen, with his three tonight, Strauss is now on the magic 87 for the year.

Possibly; I didn't see it in the guide but it wouldn't hurt to check.

An early lunch might be coming up though...

Pietersen may well get the other century for you, he is halfway there as I write this. As is Cook.

I am flattered that the cricket didn't want to go on without me watching it tonight, but how stupid was the day's play calling tea the second the sun comes out after a few hours of nothing. I really don't see any reason why they should have taken tea at all tonight - what a stupid waste, sometimes tere really ought to be more common sense in cricket. I loved reading over the Cricinfo commentary of the rain delays.
I am enjoying what I have seen since tea, Cook and Pietersen batting beautifully. Sri Lankan fielding has been good too, bowling a bit ordinary though.
I do have a couple of really trivial complaints about the play since tea. Seeing Sangakkara field anywhere other than keeper is freaking weird. I know I haven't seen him keep in a while but in the last test he at least had the courtesy not to field anywhere else either. And because he's captaining the side this time the cameras are on him a lot and it's weird.
My other complaint is the sound this ball is making when it is struck. I usually love the sound of bat on ball (because I am weird like that), but it's been sounding oddly springy tonight. Probably because the ball got a bit of moisture in it, but good shots don't sound as crisp as they ought to. It's strangely disappointing.

Cricinfo said:
I arrive with great news - the weather is dry and the forecast is good. Hopefully we'll get a full day of action.
I am excited for a solid night of cricket.
Apparently forecast for tomorrow is really bad, so it would be great to see a result forced today.
